Artists Behind the Story: The Sherbert Edition
Hey there, it’s Sherbert! Or properly known as Sarah but I honestly don’t mind what you decide to call me (so long as it remotely sounds like either of those knows ಠ_ಠ). To break things up a little bit, I’ll tell you all a little bit about myself!
Prior to Of Ash and Stars, I’ve been doing a whole lot of writing, particularly in the genre, you guessed it, fantasy! I’m even working on a book now that I hope to become a published series in the future! This has always been a passion of mine, being able to tell written and visual stories, so far being on paper but hopefully someday on the screen.
This also goes the same for my art. I don’t think there was ever a period of time I wasn’t drawing in my life. As a kid, any time I saw paper and a drawing utensil nearby, I would dive right into making art. Eventually I started tying stories into my art and making little tales and adventures for characters (and it was always about horses). That changed over time as I was exposed to some of my favorite movies, games, shows, and music…
So what has been really been my inspiration? Well for movies and shows I am a HUGE fan of The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars movies, no doubt about that, and just about any good horror movie you can name. I also love me some good mystery and supernatural in the X Files, Stranger Things, and Twin Peaks.
Some games that have really inspired me over the years have been The Legend of Zelda, older Fire Emblem games, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, The Elder Scrolls, and Final Fantasy.
But movies and games aside, I think one of the biggest inspirations has been music. I can never pick and choose a genre (though I do love 80′s and Celtic music); typically I’ll listen to what speaks to me the most, whatever renders a strong emotion out of me. But if I could narrow it down between a few artists, it would be Tears for Fears, M83, Loreena McKennit, Florence + the Machine, Howard Shore, and Akira Yamaoka.
All of this has helped me to where I am at with Of Ash and Stars. To be able to tell this story visually, with a friend at that, is so super exciting. This story is something both Vanna and I, Team Incarnadine, have valued and enjoyed, and we hope you will too!
