Black GIF Artists Speak Out | GIF Six-Pack In the confluence of Black History Month and Beyoncé's call for "Formation," we listened to the black voices of the GIF art community.

White people are looked at and heard first while POC are represented only if they excel past that standard. Until we've abolished the white standard, people of color will always be underrepresented. We're all here though."

"Turning Graph Paper Into Geometric Art: The Unlikely Inspiration Of Alma Alloro" in The Creators Project

Alma Alloro is a new media artist, musician, and animator from Tel Aviv known for creating GIFs based on hand-rendered graph-paper drawings. Combining a contemporary interest in lo-fi tech culture, with an attention to formal abstract constructs and handmade qualities reminiscent of the high-modernist designs of the early Bauhaus, Alloro has been drawing fans internationally to her work.

Anthony Antonellis is an internet-based artist, curator, quasi-cyborg, and creator of netartnet.net--an online directory for the “expanded netart universe”.  His work often consists of gentle interventions into what we desire from our internet-mediated interactions. Recent works include Facebook Bliss, a “likes”, “messages”, and “friend requests” generator and #TriggerTreat, a personalized terrorism-related keyword producer that has the dual purpose of allowing the user to act on a secret desire to capture the NSA’s interest (aka to troll the NSA), while oversaturating the mechanisms of the domestic espionage machine.

"Artist Gabriel Shalom Turns Chopping Carrots Into A Cinematic Experience" in The Creators Project

The Creator’s Project: In your video wash choose peel chop rinse, the frame captures a close-up of a domestic, mundane activity-- but the timeline is a frenetic, rhythmic, staccato--placing the minutia of sounds and visual textures into a new percussive context. Each individual frame is unremarkable--what makes this piece interesting is the ability of your video editing process itself to pick out shattered fragments more minute than our normal ability to perceive duration.
