eternal cylinder is a lovely game about herding a gaggle of long snouted orbs called trebhum being pursued by a giant shape. but even though the plot and main characters are delightful, we’re not talking about them yet. today, it’s all about this thing, the tripobosh!

isn’t this great? let’s soak it in for a bit. you don’t see something like that everyday!

the tripobosh is a pretty unforgettable and, dare I say, iconic creature. a giant, shaggy orb with taloned legs, a hooked beak, fleshy tendrils for eyes, and THREE meaty snouts extended on tendrils. it’s like you fused a hawk and a kiwi bird with multiple star nosed moles, and it’s magnificent. the person came up with a thing like this deserves all the praise! whoever you are, thank you. I want to keep this thing in a pen like a flesh eating quail.

Ingame, the tripobosh are a common hazard in tundra areas. your motley gaggle of trebhum are tiny and delicious, and plenty of predators want to sneak a bite of them, including our subject. these things stalk around, sniffing and snuffling until they catch the scent of a trebhum snack, then they quickly go on the attack. their powerful legs and make short work of your poor dears, while also making them fast enough to outrun you. fortunately, they can’t make sharp turns, and they hate the smell of certain plants. since they can only sense things by smell, I bet awful stenches are like having a flashlight shone right in your face and also you have three eyes. they’re dangerous, but they don’t fall into the “fictional predator that hunts 24/7 and never stop” trope. they’re just big, freaky animals trying to survive, like you.

there’s also a desert relative called the onogrosh, with no fur and some of the trunks traded out for tusks. they’re not quite as charming to me as their chilling cousins, but I appreciate the biodiversity they bring. more speculative biology is always a good thing, and I still like onogroshes a lot. both of these creatures are delightful, balancing alien weirdness and naturalistic biology in ways I appreciate a whole bunch. they don’t match up to any one species, even if they fill a distinct niche, and I think that’s great. very good creatures.

Umishi: Temtem #088

The way the fins are animated is a nice touch. Umishi is a very simple design, but what is it exactly? Is it a fish? A sea slug, as it was theorized in the wiki?

Whatever it is, it is pretty cute. It doesn’t stand out a lot, but it’s still different from a standard fish and it works.

So Umishi evolves into Ukama. Ukama’s main features are being fast and being known as “sea sickle“. I can certainly sea that.The way the face of both Ukama and Umishi are, I can buy it that they are fast. I wonder if they are based in anything specific. Looking at the design now, specially in that art at the top, the body makes me think of a penguin, the tail of a shark, and the face makes me think of a cat mask.

I love Arknights little Originium Slugs. They're such creachures for sure. And also in the lore, tameable and several characters keep them as pets
