The friendly librarian dropped by later that night to return Althea’s sippy cup they had accidentally left at the library. Sybil thought it was a bit strange that he showed up at their house. “Doesn’t the library have a lost and found?”
aaaa but of course, anon! honestly, I was SO super thrilled to get your message, 'cause as far as I know, I'm the only one who ships them XD glad to know I'm not alone!!
Man, these two fascinate me. O_o I mean they were never even in the same scene in the ep, but c'mon, there HAS to be a reason that this random librarian guy seems to have it out for Edison (and/or Mr. Dinkler?).
(headcanon musings got kind of rly long I think so I shoved it under a ReadMore! x.x; )
My headcanon for Dinkler and his seemingly obsessive admiration of Edison is that he's actually related to the guy - distantly, but it still counts to him enough to drastically impact his interests/career path. Ironically, one of his strongest symbols of pride that he seems to identify with is also one of his vulnerable points; it's clear that he takes any criticism of Edison personally to the extent at which it can cripple him.
Headcanon for 'Creepy Librarian'.. hmm. Well, I was playing with the idea of him being a descendant of Nikola Tesla (god, that is the coolest name) , but nah, too 'obvious'. He's just a disgruntled librarian - disgruntled imo cause he seems to hate his job? I dunno, what kind of person becomes a librarian when they seem to dislike books?? Maybe he was just pressing the kids to go to the net 'cause he knew they'd find the video footage of Topsy and quicker, too... I'm probably just thinking too hard about this, huh? x0
Anyhow, as for how these two met -- I think that Librarian guy might've seen Dinkler perform at the museum and thought he seemed pretty obnoxious, but it wasn't until Dinkler became a science(/history?) teacher at Wagstaff that he got that confirmed. First day, the guy waltzes in and messes with the library without asking! (Librarian might not care too much for his job, but he works hard to keep those shelves in shape!!) Following this, Dinkler gets permission from the principal to set up Edison exhibits in/around the library every so often and it's just really annoying to Librarian guy, because the set ups are intrusive and ensure that he's always hanging around, jabbering endlessly on about Edison to any students/staff that pass through the quiet zone and it's just - ugh!
So, of course, the logical path of action is to dig up dirt about Edison and 'gently' prompt students to research it - sure, he could confront Dinkler himself, but he's more passive aggressive by nature than anything (as he says, his flaw is that he 'starts things and doesn't finish them').
So yeah, there's pretty much mutual dislike between the two 'fore we come to the shipping part xD if they could get to a place where they did get along, I think they're both smart men that'd find something to talk about... Dinkler definitely majored in some kind of science/history hybrid thing and I'd bet that Librarian minored in history/english(?) when he studied Library science, so yeah possible booknerd bonding in addition to hatesex? idek lol
Stray headcanons: Librarian guy is a big supporter of animal rights (which is another reason for his frustration over the case of Topsy) and he owns a cat. Dinkler's part of a re-enactment club where he plays other roles besides Edison and he enjoys gardening on the side.
god I love developing random side characters XD;; If you read all of that craziness... thank u and i hope u find $10 on the ground today<3
