This silly little guy is James’s personal assistant! His body is incredibly weak and there were multiple moments when his experiment was almost abandoned or he was almost disposed of. (James stepped every time).
He shares a room with James where he lives in a large functional dollhouse. It gives him a sense of normalcy despite his distinctly inhuman body. He can often be found assisting James, whether by doing paperwork, taking notes for James, or simply being nearby as emotional support.
He is one of the more moral Fools with a clear sense of right and wrong. He hates violence and generally stays indoors to avoid danger. (He’s been banned from walking on the floor after being stepped on too many times so he can typically be found on desks or shelves).
Crein is an awkward extrovert but he rarely gets to interact with anyone outside of James and Alois. His association with James tends to be off putting and many avoid him because of it.
Before he entered the Forest he would often chat with James as a friend at the border of the Forest. He never had any interest in entering the Forest and James had often told him to never enter because it was a horrible place.
In the end he didn’t have a choice.
His backstory is by far one of the more disturbing stories that will be posted on this blog
Crein never felt like a girl. Sure he liked to wear a skirt every now and then. But he never felt like he fit in with the girls.
He hated how long hair framed his face, and how his the parents would call him their “little girl”
So he cut his hair. It was small things he changed. He started wearing clothes that better hid his frame, he claimed it was because he was ashamed of his weight when asked. He started hanging out with the boys in his class more.
He started going by the name Crein.
That’s when his parents found out.
One of his teachers called home when one of Crein’s classmates corrected the teacher. She corrected the teacher saying his name was Crein.
Her heart was in the right place. But Crein had never felt such visceral fear. Such utter terror as when he learned his parents were called.
His parents. Were, “accepting” of his name change. They openly supported his transition they said.
His mom wouldn’t stop telling his neighbors how proud of her TRANS son she was. How she was such a supportive mom. In fact she told everyone about how “hard it was being the mom of tr***y”
And she always said his name weird. As if she were placating a child. As if it was just temporary.
It was like she expected to get an award for not beating him black and blue.
His dad started treating him rougher. “If he wanted to be a man then he’d treat him like a man…”
Neither of them used the right name at home, or the right pronouns. But they didn’t treat him like their “little girl” anymore. Like he was their beloved child. They knew he wasn’t a girl now. But he had never felt more objectified.
It got to the point that his mom raised money to pay for top surgery for him!
..He would not be 18 for another couple of months…
She was such a supportive mom. The neighborhood got together to help her pay for it <3
Where did she find a doctor that would do top surgery on a minor? Even then Crein wasn’t prepared for such a big surgery. Especially knowing he wouldn’t have any support at home afterwards.
When his parents had his top surgery announced in the morning local news they were praised as such supportive parents. Crein was just in shock that he had to find out at the same time as everyone else.
That they used his gender identity to just, boost their reputation.
And he told them this. He confronted them saying he wasn’t comfortable with top surgery just yet. That he wanted to come out on his own terms. He didn’t WANT to be know as “that trans kid with supportive parents” he just wanted to be Crein. Plain old Crein.
It escalated into an argument. How DARE their little girl be so SELFISH, so UNGRATEFUL of their generosity.
They weren’t going to waste thousands of dollars on some ungrateful little bitch.
But they couldn’t back out of top surgery when the whole town is expecting it to happen.
Let it be known. DIY top surgery isn’t a good idea
Especially when the doctor is your dad with a dull knife. And the nurse is your mom trying to hold you down like an unruly dog. Forcing Ibuprofen down his throat as he screams bloody murder.
By some miracle he escaped before he lost too much blood.
He ran straight into the Forest. He knew the danger that awaited him if he hopped the fence. He had been talking with James for over 2 years. James had even warned him against entering the Forest…
But he was willing to take his chances.
Because no one enters the Forest. And those who do don’t come back.
And by god did he never want to come back.
Extra:
James doesn’t stoop so low that he lures in minors, in his defense he was a year into luring Crein when he found out his age. (Crein lied about his age because he was curious about the fox-man)
He stuck around because he felt like he was Crein’s only support while this was going on and it’d be kinda shitty to leave him along with all that going on
(Bro was STRESSING thinking HE —HIM, JAMES, THE ASSHOLE— was this poor kid’s only support)
Clarifications:
Was the surgery planned?
No, it was a spur of the moment thing, they were just so angry that they thought it was a good idea. It was just a random kitchen knife. At some point it devolved into some sort of delirious hysteria with all parties involved, which is how Crein escaped
Although they definitely earned more then they needed, because they were originally planning on taking him to an illegal back alley doctor. They had trouble finding someone close that would do top surgery on a 17 yo.
So as for the parents of Crein—was there a point like in the beginning where it was like “Oh this is nice, yay!” or was there always this unsettling feeling of “something feels wrong” about their support for Crein?
At first Crein was just relieved he wasn’t disowned. But it got more unsettling as time moved on. His parents started treating him like being trans was his only identity. While also treating it like it was phase.
They stopped taking care of him like their child, and more like a trophy to be maintained and displayed.
So it went from relieved. To unsettled, to frustrated and stifled but too nervous to do anything in fear of breaking the very unstable relationships he now had with his parents. He was scared to tell anyone about it though because his parents were so “openly supportive” so he didn’t think anyone believe him if he said his mom was transphobic or that the bruises on his arm were from his dad grabbing him too harshly
He was terrified he’d be accused of being an attention whore because by the time he realized he should tell someone him reputation shifted from “the nice chubby kid, Crein” to just “the trans kid with super supportive parents”
