So....what exactly DID happen on sherlock? Everyones super pissed about queerbaiting but I haven't seen anyone say what actually happened

i mean a lot happened that wasnt relevant to the whole queerbaity stuff that I'm not gonna talk about bc i cant be bothered lmao it wasnt awful it just wasnt overly good lol 

this entire series - and all the other series tbh - has been setting up towards john and sherlock getting together, everything has been so intensely queer coded and explicitly stated as sherlock and john being in love, just off the top of my head: 

[mary to sherlock about john]: “the man we both love” 

“get on with it then” (in the context of the scene the only reading of this is mary telling john its okay for him to move on and be with sherlock, like theres ?????? no other reading for this line, contextually

“still thinking about sherlock?” “no, you are”

not to mention gems such as “we’re not a couple” “yes you are” “I'm not gay if anyone actually cares” “well I am and look at us both” (in the context of that scene she’s saying theyre both in love with sherlock), and every single time mrs hudson assumed they were a couple despite apparently having no reason to think so

BASICALLY WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY is that this was deliberate, this was set up to be read this way. This isn’t us making it up, filmmakers know what theyre doing, scriptwriters know what this shit means, directors know how its going to be interpreted, editors know the anatomy of a love scene and it all added up to make this reading thats so clear theres an entire youtube series dedicated to it (search TJLC)

THEN THE REAL KICK IN THE TEETH was the line “I know the two of you, and without me I know what you could become.” [a message mary left after she died about sherlock and john] LIKE WHAT OTHER READING OF THAT IS THERE they completely acknowledged their potential then they put them back in 221b without having changed anything, they just flicked a reset switch on their relationship and sent them back to season 2 despite having set up this huge romance, it was such a kick in the teeth not because our gay ship didnt become canon, but because they explicitly set it up to become canon then ripped it away from us

that is why we’re angry

honestly i think theyre just dragging out him revealing why he did it because theyve realized that too and they're scrambling to come up with a reason

i mean, that wouldn’t surprise me at all. i just hope they use the time to come up with something better than that dean never really forgave seth last year and he’s been playing the long game the whole time, just waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
