At the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Wisley, UK, they are carrying out a trial of Lagerstroemia indica (crape myrtle, crepe flower) cultivars that seemed to be thriving in the hot weather. This deciduous tree or large shrub has attractive peeling bark with dark green leaves that are bronze when young and the flowers are produced from summer to autumn. This plant needs a warm, sunny location or the protection of a frost free glasshouse.
