Christmas Comes But Once a Year (1936)

   This is probably my favorite Christmas short ever, certainly one of my top three Max Fleischer Studios. It’s just so crescent fresh.

   A guy sees a bunch of impoverished kids, at an orphanage no less, getting almost worse than nothing for Christmas and will not let that fucking stand. Therefore he takes fate into his own God given hands to unfuck this situation posthaste. Using his own wits and and what he has at hand to make some good quality toys for the childrens.

   Now maybe it’s because I’ve always been on the poorer end of things and one of like nine children, it was a “yours, mine, and ours” situation, and we sometimes had to get creative with how we spent our money to make it through winter. A wood burning furnace does wonders if you learn to do lumber work. Heck, we even used a dead shrub as a Christmas tree one year cause we couldn’t afford a proper Christmas tree, natural or artificial. Maybe it’s because I saw this short on a VHS when I was like four. All I know is I like it and I think it worth your time to give it a gander.
