Inspector French and the Sea Mystery
Ok, so when I picked this book up, I did not know it was part of a series and didn't really know much about the whole series as a whole (I could guess it was a series since there were more around it at the table), and I bought it since the premise was interesting enough. Fast forward a year later, or more, and I finally got around to reading it. My first thought was that the narration style was a bit convoluted; it did feel like we were solving the case in real time to some extent. Without spoilers, this plot twist genuinely took me by surprise, and I did not see it coming at all. Since the original was written in 1928, the dialect and way of writing can also feel a bit foreign or strange in certain parts, but I don't think it was that bad and was able to understand everything perfectly.
Overall, this book felt like a good, slow-paced book that scratched my itch for a good murder mystery, albeit a bit superficially. All things considered, I would also still highly recommend it if you like slow, old murder mysteries (bit niche but also a good general read for murder mystery enjoyers not gonna lie)
