This is a long shot, but do you remember a post you made years ago about buying stocking gifts for people? I'm buying for my uncle this year after we lost my aunt, but I've never done this before and I'm already stuck!
Well, firstly, my condolences on your aunt. Be kind to yourselves this Christmas - it'll likely be difficult at sudden and unexpected moments.
Secondly, the bad news is, I have no memory of this post, BUT
Thirdly: good news!! I can literally write one now.
Elanor's Guide to Christmas Stockings
Okay, first, set your budget.
Now, you're going to get your gifts using four categories. These are:
Something they want
Something they need
Something to wear
Something to read
Buy 1 to 3 gifts in each category. Let your budget determine whether this means you get a full 12 items, or if this is a happy six, or whatever else.
General guidance:
Don't just buy Plastic Shit to have something. Make it at least slightly meaningful
Charity shops are fantastic for stocking stuff, because even if it ultimately doesn't get used, they're basically a donation (plus eco friendly if it's a pre-loved item
Think of things that have a use. Mugs, nail files/clippers, a belt/scarf, tea towels, etc
Think of things they do day to day. Does he like to garden? To read? Watching sports? If so, are there items you could get that would go well with this?
Is there a little tool that would make life easier? This year I got arthritis friendly paintbrushes for my artist mother
Finish off with a chocolate/sweet treat, and a tangerine or clementine.
*****
To give an example, here's mine and my sister's current plan for my mother's stocking this year:
Want:
Murder mystery casefile game
Sudoku book challenge level: impossible
Need:
Little canvases for painting
Teacup
Wear:
Socks
Pretty scarf
Earrings
Read:
Book (my sister is getting this one, I have no further details)
Plus chocolate and tangerine
I hope this was helpful! Good luck with the holidays, and take time out of the party to decompress in a quiet room occasionally if you need to
