The actual battle for King’s Landing had begun as a siege, but soon the lack of supplies getting into the city caused riots and smallfolk began abandoning the city in the thousands. Taking Drogon and Rhaegal, Daenerys made short work of the scorpions on the walls and the archers there as well, before heading directly for the Red Keep. The gates were open and the people were fleeing the city when the massive explosion of green fire burst out of the Keep and rolled through the streets, decimating everything and everyone in its path. Dany had struggled to keep hold of Drogon and watched in shock. It was hours before she could approach what was left of the throne room, quiet after dealing with more resentment from the Northerners.
So when Jon Snow followed her into the throne room, Daenerys was surprised at his kind and generous demeanor. The Northerners blamed her for the wildfire, a dangerous potion that Tyrion had assured her had been used up in the Battle of the Blackwater, but here he was saying she was his Queen and Daenerys crossed the floor to him, unaware of his pending treachery. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw an enormous black mass swooping down into the space and thought it was Drogon, but this dragon was much bigger and without the red undertones to it’s scales. She wasn’t frightened, but it’s massive paw planted in front of her and with that movement, Dany saw the knife tucked in Jon’s hand.
Her heartbeat skipped a beat. The beast roared and the sound shook the ruins. Jon’s furtive dive towards her made Dany move closer to the strange dragon and in a flash, dragon fire rolled over the traitor. She was shaking as what had been the King in the North was reduced to a small pile of ashes, looking up at the dragon in amazement and caution. “You saved my life. I didn’t even know there was another dragon in this world and yet, you came to me at the right moment,” Daenerys offered softly, unsure if the dragon could understand her, but it had clearly protected her. It was at least three times bigger than Drogon. Where had it come from?
