If I am not mistaken, you asked about the story behind them being covered in blood! Here’s some thoughts:
First things first! I headcanon that Foolish and Eret originally met when Foolish was a totem of Death, so Eret knows Foolish at his most bloody. Of course, Eret themself is just as bloody.
One thing was the symbolic level! I picture Eret and Foolish at the start of their friendship as more violent and reckless, warriors at their core, very into fighting and bloodshed, therefore, blood to show that!
For this particular scenario, I imagined something like what if we slaughtered all our enemies and then danced in celebration under the light of sunrise while still covered in their blood? haha jk... unless...
I imagine something like the wither cult incident, but I didn’t want to make that 100% the Event because Foolish tends to reject his past and I’m not sure that’s what he’d have brought up when reuniting with his friend of lifetimes when he is now a peaceful man rip
Now, you didn’t ask for this specifically but I Do have a detailed explanation to the why’s and how’s of each panel and I have been waiting for someone to ask so here’s some extra stuff about it:
Eret is wearing white, even if bloody, sort of symbolizing the start of a transition towards peace on their side.
There’s a lil bit of gold on Foolish’s armor for the same reason. Just a tiny bit.
There was a deliberate choice to have Eret’s hand wrap around the spikes on Foolish’s shoulder plate! They’re friends and have nothing to fear from each other <3 rip to everyone else tho, literally
The wings on Eret’s hair? Yeah if you see my Eret wearing gold you can assume Foolish gave it to her
And of course! The lil bit of gold creeping into frame with the sunlight
