It's hurting plenty of people's enjoyment of the minecraft tag, myself included, which is enough of a reason for me to do it.

Also, it takes more effort to send an anonymous ask than it does to just. not include a tag when posting. A simple easy fix for such an unserious problem, I agree!

Ok. If you know of a clear, non-annoying way to communicate that being a Minecraft fan does not make you an MCYT fan (and sometimes vice versa), and that people should be aware of that when making and tagging their posts, let me know!

But also: good. This blog was born out of mine and many others' frustration at the state of the #minecraft tag & mcyt tagging issues in general. As informative as I've made it, some of that annoyance is bound to bleed through. Which is fine by me 👁️👁️

Surely there are better uses of one's time.

The #minecraft tag is a river & I'm using this blog like a fishing trip. Sometimes I fish up glass bottles or other random objects (interesting, but they don't belong in the river and it's a real problem), and sometimes there's a tug at the line and it's a fish I've never seen before (beautiful concept art of mobs & structures for an imagined update, my favourite thing to see in the #minecraft tag).

Are there better uses of my time? Most definitely! But also, it's fun! And if/when it becomes less fun, or I don't have time for it, the blog & pinned post will still exist as a resource that people can direct others to.

Thanks for ruining my Christmas you piece of shit. Trying to police how people tag things is so fucking stupid. I posted a photo of someone in Minecraft. Who fucking cares that it's from a YouTube video? It's still Minecraft. It's still the same fucking game.

I tag things as Minecraft if it has anything to do with Minecraft. Y'know, like a normal person. I like to keep my blog organized. I'm not going to use some special tag you made up for your own sick pleasure.

Side-stepping your assumptions of me being "mad at everyone" and thinking I'm "better than everyone", both of which are false; I have to admit I'm also confused, mainly by your belief that I personally invented the #mcyt tag and that I'm. forcing everyone to use it? For my own amusement??

I'm no fandom historian, but afaik "MCYT" as an abbreviation for "MineCraft YouTube(rs)" has been commonplace as a fandom tag since 2020, when existing SMPs like Hermitcraft & new ones like the DSMP experienced a boom in popularity due to the covid lockdown.

The #mcyt / #minecraft tag split has been a thing since then: an attempt to contain or filter out the huge influx of posts about youtuber builds and streamed storylines, so that people who just want to talk about Minecraft the game can do so without being overshadowed by fandoms of million-subscriber creators.

As for my supposed "sick pleasure"... This is essentially a PSA blog. I tend to assume people who post mcyt in the minecraft tag are uninformed or newcomers, since as stated above the difference has been common practice in mcyt fan spaces for about 5 years now. With that in mind, I try to keep this blog as neutral, informative, and open to discussion as possible. My hope is that when I reblog something here, the person will be confused, click on my blog, read the pinned post & go "oh that makes sense, good to know!" and then not use the tag in future posts. If even one person does that (and plenty already have), then I'm happy with this blog.
