It's been a long, tough 48 hours. My parents pretty much disowned me (again) the night before one of the biggest exams of my life, and a week before one of the 'happiest' days of my life (anyone want to see me graduate? I have 3 grad tickets left over now... ). I just don't get it; your 16 year old daughter moves out, and only spends 5 full nights at your house in the following 5 years, and you make her feel worthless and incompetent the night before a serious exam, knowing she has no where else to stay. An exam she spent four long years preparing for. Anyway, I wrote that exam this morning - it took me longer than expected, but Im pretty confident in the results. My brother still hates me, for only God knows what reason. Personally I think he resents me for my strong personality; I was able to move out at a young age, complete a degree while making it on the Dean's List, and he's just sitting on his ass at my parent's house telemarketing. Finally, on my way home to the States from Canada, I got seriously frisked at the border. Apparently, a 'random' secondary check up.  

But you know what? I'm breathing. I am healthy. I am young, independent woman with a nursing degree. And all of a sudden, all of the above seems a little less horrible.

To all my future Canadian nurseies taking the CRNE with me tomorrow: We've been preparing for this since our first class in first year. We're well versed in the skill of picking the BEST right answer when faced with four right answers. We’ve rocked tired eyes and those navy blue scrubs while applying what we learned in Episodic and Complex during our rotations. We’ve made killer nursing care plansthat were 20 pages long. We’ve made mistakes on our units and learned from them - overall, we’ve cared for our patients well (most of us haven't killed anyone yet!). We’ve not only been preparing for this for the past few months, but we’ve been preparing for it since day one when sleeping through Intro to Nursing classes. We've studied long and hard. Take a deep breath, enjoy this sun today, go to bed early tonight, and I will see your lovely faces bright and early tomorrow. Good luck! I believe in us, we will do great!
