Warnings: none, just a few angry Croats in the beginning
“What?! That’s such bullshit!” I screamed at the TV screen.
“What are you doing?” Uvogin ducked into the room.
“Her? Ask the fuckin’ ref!” My friend, Andréa, clenched her fists. “He’s blind, I swear.”
“Are you… okay?” He asked hesitantly.
“That depends on who wins.” I responded, Iva, Andréa, and I more focused on the game.
“Is this-” he started asking something, but Iva shushed him.
“We’re trying to watch the game, don’t bother us unless it’s an actual emergency.” My aura spiked as the ball neared the Croatian goal. “Get it away… from the damn… GOAL!”
Iva and I screeched as Isak, a Swedish player, attempted to score a goal. Luckily, he was blocked by the goalie, and the ball was stolen by Modrić. Andréa let out a sigh of relief as Modrić approached the goal.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen her that intense.” I heard Uvogin say to someone as he left the room.
“Go! Come on!” I held my breath, “You got this, Modrić!”
“Let’s go, Modrić!” Andréa shouted.
“What does that mean?” Chrollo whispered.
“I have no idea… what language even is that?” Machi asked.
“She said she’s Croatian.” Shizuku pointed out. “So I bet it’s Croatian.”
“Modrić is a player.” Iva spoke quickly.
“So they’re supporting Croatia.” Machi figured.
“Odjebi!” I screamed at the Swedish goalie as he blocked the goal.
“Is that the player’s name?” Chrollo came to sit next to me.
“It actually means ‘fuck off’.” Andréa laughed. Iva and I couldn’t help but get up as Modrić passed the ball to Lovren.
“Please!” I begged, praying to whatever was above that he would make the final goal needed.
“Is this normal for you all?” Chrollo asked quietly.
“Yeah… oh my god, go!” I put my hands on my head as he kicked the ball. Five seconds left.
It moved in slow motion towards the goal, the Swedish goalie jumping for the ball. Three seconds left.
Andréa, Iva, and I all held our breath… as the goalie missed… and the ball went into the goal.
We all celebrated the close game, cheering and clinking our beers together as we drank.
“Holy shit, that was too close!” I gasped.
“Why did you get so excited?” Chrollo seemed curiously amused by our celebratory smiles.
“It’s football, how are you not excited?!” Iva shook her head in disbelief.
“I haven’t converted him yet.” I explained.
“There’s another game right after this one, let’s start there.” Andréa smiled deviously.
“Start what? Who are you two?” Feitan glared at my two friends, assuming a fighting stance.
“They’re my friends, and if you hurt them I’ll kill you.” I clarified. “We were talking about football, we’re getting Chrollo into it, you wanna hang with us too?”
“I’d rather die.” He left the room immediately.
“Well, fuck you too, Midget.” I hissed after him.
“Your aura is absolutely delightful when you get worked up.” Hisoka smirked from the corner of the room.
“How long have you been in here?” I rolled my eyes at the jester.
“Half an hour or so, I believe. Long enough to know how delicious you truly are, Y/N.” He licked his lips, a sly grin on his face.
“Well, then I guess you’re gonna be watching football too, we’ll make a fan outta you both.” Iva clapped her hands.
“This one is Spain versus Germany, there’s no way our team loses.” Andréa smiled.
“Yeah, we’re rooting for Spain.” I confirmed, pointing at the screen.
While we waited for the next game to start, we joked around and drank beer, snacking on the assortment of food on the coffee table.
“Here we go, this is the game.” Iva nodded at the screen.
“Aren’t there rules I should know?” Chrollo asked as he began watching.
“Yeah, but you’ll figure them out as you go.” I stuck my tongue out playfully.
“Let’s do this then.” Andréa whooped.
It didn’t take him too long to get the point, and some of the rules down.
His eyes widened as he continued watching, I could tell he was interested.
“This is fun.” Chrollo decided.
“Isn’t it?” I followed the ball with my eyes.
“Yeah… I get it now.” He laughed.
“There we go! Now you’re one of us.” Iva giggled.
“Perfect.” I laughed at her phrasing.
“Now he’s a football fan!” Andréa snorted.
“He’ll be a Croat in no time.” I joked.
“I wouldn’t be against that.” Chrollo shrugged.
“Bet.” I took my oversized jersey off, throwing it at him. “Wear this.”
He looked strangely natural in the Croatian Jersey, almost as if it belonged on him.
“Feeling more Croatian already.” He fixed the jersey on himself. I smiled, making a mental note to tell him how good he looked later. But for now, I would just hope that my look said it all.
