June 2026 - Candle holder
Decided to revive this old candle, by adding a cozy cover to it! Gives off such candy cane vibes!
It was such a delight to crochet, and needless to say, was super easy and addictive too! I love the vintage trim around it, and the little bow. You can easily customize it, by adding different trims or bows, or leaving out the trim , etc. I love that this is done using a simple single crochet stitch...nothing complex, no frills, except a little trim! :)
Points to note: 1) I would HIGHLY recommend to use a slightly larger hook size for single crochet, as a smaller size makes the stitches very tight. I started with a 3 mm hook, found it to be very tight (even though 3-4 mm was the recommended hook sizes on the yarn label), went to the extreme of using 4.5 mm hook, found it to be too loose (hence the foundation chains are a bit loose), then decided to use 4 mm hook, which hit the sweet spot! It was the perfect tension, not tight, slightly loose. 2) Measure the radius and height accurately, keep checking your work to see if height is reached, else you will go on crocheting, it's so addictive!
Stitches used: - For the candle holder (red part) - Single crochet. Keep repeating till desired height is reached. When a round is complete, join the last stitch to first using a slip stitch. - For the white trim - Single crochet in one stitch, followed by 3 treble crochets in the next stitch - keep repeating the pattern till circle is complete. . . .
