'' He doesn't know how to convey the pure joy he feels in his chest, if not with another kiss. Kaveh looks fuller, ripe almost. '' I'm going to get us a nice mango cake. ''
were al-haitham's expression anything less than pathetically adoring, Kaveh would've moved his hand away and scoffed at the perceived slight addressing his eating habits.
But judgment is not what he finds in those words, touch and — by god! — smile. Al-Haitham smiles at him, kisses him, looks at him like he's the world. Like he's been waiting for the days when Kaveh's skin was no longer sickly pale, his cheeks became fuller and a compliment to the lines of his jaw adorning their sides, rather than a timid dip accusing the shape of his skull.
He can be squished now, because he has a healthy padding to him acquired with consistent diet and loving support. It's embarrassing, in a way, to think about it so clearly, without beating around the bush or pretending it wasn't a reality years ago when this joint effort with mutual benefits had yet to be agreed upon.
Even so, there's something to be said that someone other than him, the one exclusively and personally affected by it, thought it a matter worth acknowledging and honoring in any shape or form.
Instead of an attitude, the reaction that often comes knee-jerk in nature, Kaveh sighs. He lets a fraction of his weight fall into al-Haitham's hand and some against his side, quietly observing the joy glimmer in the jewel colors of his eyes. How can he not mirror it and soften too? ❝ What about pudding instead? Two portions, and a padisarah one. It's been a while since we last had it. ❞
