Croft Castle
Croft Castle is located in the village of Yarpole in Herefordshire, England. This site has been occupied since the 11thcentury and owned by the Croft family for the majority of its history. The castellated castle sits on 1500 acres and was built in the 14thcentury. The castle is a quadrangle structure with a central courtyard, castellated round towers, and a square tower on the north side. The castle once had a parapet, but it was removed with the exception of the ones flanking the entrance. Croft castle was sold due to financial difficulties in 1746. The castle was remodeled in the Rocco-Gothic style in the 1760s. In the 1780s, due to further financial debt, Thomas Johnes sold the castle to Somerset Davies. The Croft family eventually repurchased their family castle in 1923 and the family still lives there today. There is a 13thcentury chapel dedicated to St. Michael on the property, a walled garden, an orchard, and a greenhouse from 1908. The castle is under the care of the National Trust and is open to the public.
