Picture 1: Gloria holds two precious bowls of Aunty Muni Waakye. This is a regular Sunday after church ritual for my family. The big question is: “How did street food sold only twice a week, right by a big gutter, become one of Ghana’s most iconic food brands? What is Aunty Muni doing right? Many people agree it is quite expensive for waakye. It is also not necessarily the finest tasting waakye in Accra. So what is her secret? One of the major strengths about Aunty Muni is her consistency. She’s watched all my 3 children grow. We’ve been eating there for over 15 years, and taste, delivery, atmosphere- everything is consistent. There’s a reason CocaCola and co don’t change their logo every year. Too many of the local brands in Ghana are not consistent. They’re always chasing the latest greatest. You go back after a year of buying a door or car, and they don’t stock the model you bought and the parts for it anymore. Nobody likes to spend big on fickle brands. If you want to grow your business, be consistent.
