Reference Sheet: Cronus (updated)
This post is to serve as a worded reference for the appearance, history, and abilities of Cronus, and has been updated to reflect the changes that occurred in the “Determination Crisis” arc.
History: Cronus was not born into his world, instead , he was genetically engineered by the Gaster of his timeline. He was meant to act as a Guinea pig for the Determination Pill, a substance that permanently increased the recipients DT level. His original purpose was to find the threshold level for the pill, so that when Gaster experimented on Sans, and eventually Papyrus, they wouldn’t OD on the added Determination. However, Cronus survived the theoretical threshold, and increased exponentially in power. Gaster, seeing a chance to create a “weapon” from Cronus, subjected him to a brutal and uncompromising training regime, which lasted for years. Once this regime was finished, Gaster sent him on a test run to the ruins, to kill the exiled queen, Toriel, as a gauge for his power. However, once he arrived, and saw her tending to a fallen child (not Frisk) , he refused, and was subdued by Gaster. Cronus was then placed “on ice” indefinitely , until Gaster could find a way to control him. Several years later, however, the Sans of his timeline found him, and together, they were able to defeat Gaster, which cumulated in Gaster falling into the Core. Sans offered Cronus a place to live, which he accepted, and for the first time, felt love for others. However, this was not to last. About 3 years after the death of Gaster, the timeline was assaulted by an outsider, Error!Sans. He fought against Error, along with the other monsters, and was left the last one standing. In desperation, he attempted to use a “short cut” for the first time, hoping to regain his bearings. However, this uncalculated jump brought him to reside in front of a console command screen. From there, he learned the coded coordinates of another universe, and jumped to it. He has continued this pattern ever since, and has interacted with a number of unique and interesting timelines. He has, over his journey, learned how to harness the extremely high DT level he has in unique ways, including his regeneration ability. Currently, he has begun to actively pursue two agendas: help those who have been harmed by the power of the corrupt “grey faces”, and the hunt to put an end to Error, so to stop his rampage.
Update: Cronus, for the last 9 ½ months, has put aside his goal of hunting Error. Instead, he has dedicated himself to an adopted family, which is a group of brothers. He was able to assist them with a major problem, which was that two of the brothers couldn’t exist physically, and one could only exist via fusion. Enlisting the aid of Freckles, a Sans from another timeline, and the fallen archangel, Darkwing, they delved into Xibalba, or the realm of the dead. After surviving the horrors that awaited them there, a ritual was performed, in which Cronus used massive amounts of DT to revive and generate the bodies of his brothers. As a result, he had begun to suffer DT withdrawal, which caused massive pain and, eventually, his soul to crack. In desperation, he travelled to a branch timeline of the one he was from, in the hopes of finding DT pills. Unfortunately, he was captured by the Gaster of that timeline, and learned the missing pieces of his creation: Cronus’ SOUL was made originally of void energy, and part of his genome was that of the Dreemurr family, meaning that he is part Boss Monster. Not only that, but his creation was set in motion from a deal made between the Gaster’s of that universe, and an Error Sans, the same one who had attempted to kill him centuries ago. After learning all of this, he was subjected to a horrible, excruciating experimental procedure, which raised his DT levels far beyond what they previously had been. Surviving the experiment through sheer willpower, Cronus was able to escape his restraints and, learning that new abilities had been awakened, killed Gaster by burning him alive. He then proceeded to destroy the Core of that timeline, in the hopes of sparing the monster population of a much worse fate, that of being killed by Error.
Appearance : Cronus, in his true form, is a tall skeleton , roughly 6 feet in height, with a face similar to Sans in appearance. His eyes are different colors when they glow, with his right purple, and his left green. He normally wears a black hoodie with an image of a Gaster blaster on it, along with black gloves, dark blue jeans, and metal tipped shoes, normally either boots or sneakers. Like all of those who were exposed to the Determination pill, his body is covered with marks, namely around his eyes, which are purple/green in color, and resemble Nordic runes in appearance. His SOUL is a mix of Purple and Green, and is laced with scars, mostly due to Errors magic threads almost shattering it. In his “grey face” form, he is able to take the appearance of one, with a few distinctions, namely his eye color and the appearance of his mouth (it’s similar to Sans’ in design).
Update: As of the experimental procedure he underwent, the appearance of both his markings, and his soul, have changed dramatically. No longer does he bear the markings of runes on his face. Instead, solid lines run across not only his face, but his entire body. On his face, two vertical lines cross over his eyes, and then meet below his chin and at the base of his skull. The lines then proceed to cover the rest of his body, criss crossing at random intervals. Furthermore, the markings are no longer purple and green, instead now all of them are a glowing, almost blood colored red. His SOUL no longer bears the scars from Error. Instead, a single X spans the entire SOUL, which exists on both sides. The X itself is the same color as the markings, but much lighter in color and pulsates very brightly. The green and purple of his SOUL still exist, with the green existing in the bottom and top parts of the SOUL, while the purple is located at the left and right sides.
Abilities:
Bone magic: like any skeleton, he his able to summon bones to be used in combat.
Update: Since the experiment, the bones he summons are now onyx, with red lines criss crossing them. The strength of the attacks from these bones have been increased dramatically, with them being able to pierce heavily reinforced objects, and dealing damage close to 100 hp.
Healing: Cronus is able to manipulate his magic to heal others, including the most horrific of injuries.
Soul magic: Similar to Sans, he is able to grip the SOULS of other beings, and command them at will. However, he is also able to rip a soul apart, however, it does not necessarily shatter the soul instantly.
Time Magic: Cronus is able to manipulate the timelines of the multiverse, including taking “short cuts”, universe jumping, and, for a short time, freezing the timeline he is currently in.
Pocket dimension: Cronus has the ability to jump to his pocket dimension , which is where he normally regenerates at. He also uses it to plan his next move, and heal himself, should he require to.
Combat training: Due to Gasters training regime, Cronus is extremely effective in combat. He has been compared to an elite commando when it comes to his hand-to-hand combat, calculating, and tactics.
Grey face form: Cronus is able to manifest his form to that of a grey face. His combat abilities are limited in this form, as he can’t use magic. He normally only uses this form for scouting purposes, or when the situation is uncertain.
Near immortality: Due to his extremely abnormally high DT level, Cronus is able to survive the destruction of either form, and regenerate a new body. However, this takes time, and he is vulnerable to certain abilities, and thus retreats to his pocket dimension.
Knowledge : having traveled the multiverse for centuries, Cronus has a variety of experience with many situations, magics, and people. While normally unwilling to use this knowledge to harm others, he will do so if he has no choice.
Multilingual : Cronus is capable of reading and speaking multiple languages, including wing dings, binary, and several ancient, dead languages.
Micro Black hole: By far his most deadly attack, Cronus is capable of summoning a micro black hole, which completely destroys those used on. He rarely uses this however, due to the destructive nature of it.
Gaster Blaster: Cronus is able to summon his own Gaster Blasters, which he usually uses to great effect.
Update: As of the experiment, his Gaster Blasters are now onyx in color. The eyes of the Blasters are the same color as the markings on Cronus, and the beam emitted is now red in color as well. Furthermore, the blast radius and strength of the Blaster has been increased dramatically, with one blast being able to destroy objects as large as skyscrapers with ease.
Aura Sense: Cronus is able to sense the aura projected by the SOULS of creatures, and gives an indication of their personality, and in some cases, those who they frequent with.
Void Immunity: Cronus, through the experimentation of Gaster, is immune to the effects and destructiveness of the void. However, he only has a limited resistance to void-based attacks.
Determination Resistance - Through experimentation from Gaster, Cronus has a very high threshold for Determination, allowing him to have extremely high DT levels that most monsters couldn’t handle. As of now, his DT is well above that of a Frisk from the Alpha Timeline, roughly 2.5 times more.
UPDATE: As of the experiment, Cronus has had several new abilities awakened, including:
Angelic Swords: Cronus has gained the ability to summon swords that are similar in appearance to those used by his associate, Darkwing. He can either summon a barrage of these and launch them, similar to his bones, or he can wield them in his hands. They are extremely sharp and durable, being able to slice almost any known material.
Fire Magic: Cronus has gained the ability of pyrokinesis, similar to what is used by the Dreemurr family. He is currently able to summon fireballs, which he launches from his hands, or project flames from his hands in a fashion similar to a flamethrower.
Hardened Skeleton: As a result of his DT levels interacting with his LV, Cronus’ skeleton has appeared to harden, being more resistant to all types of damage.
WEAKNESSES:
Family: Cronus is hyper-protective of anyone he considers close. If push comes to shove, he has no qualms with killing, or, if need be, “Biting the dust” to protect them.
PTSD: While normally under control, pushed too far, either with the topic of Error, or with seeing experimentation done by a Gaster, Cronus will lose it. Depending on the severity of the episode, he may either break down, or go into a berserker rage.
