When 'no one' is looking at the 2fort snipers
So I want to wear a new dress to a church picnic on Sunday
Which I haven’t finished sewing, largely because I don’t even own a zipper foot, so I’m going to my aunt’s house to use her sewing machine today. And this weekend we’ll be working on painting the house again, and I have to do some baking for the picnic.
And my dad isn’t working for the next couple weeks, so he’s going to be continuing to work on painting my house. Which means he’ll basically be living with me. (His house is an hour and a half away, so some days he’ll be spending the night and other days he’ll go home to be with my mom and brother, probably.) Which means I should probably be making actual food, instead of expecting him to live on canned soup like I’ve been lately, since he’ll be doing several hours per day of hard work with scaffolding and stuff.
And next weekend my entire extended family of 10 is going up to the cabin together for Labor Day (which my doctor uncle and nurse grandma say is okay as long as my little brother, the only one of us with a social life right now, quarantines for a while beforehand).
Which is an incredibly long-winded explanation for the fact that I might not be able to get the next few chapters of Crooked Arrows out on time.
However! The next three chapters will be as follows, probably:
64) some drama with Dickie
65) Roy-centric, not fully plotted but I know he’s going to an archery club and there will be a conversation about Christmas cards
66) Cass and Steph have a long weekend
And now that I’m looking at it laid out like that, there’s definitely no way we’re wrapping up in 67 chapters. 68? 69? We’ll see. I still doubt it’ll be over 70. The plan is to end with Hanukkah.
hey! you can watch Crooked Arrows on youtube for free (w ads)! so do that then why don’cha!
So work is still running, but I’m not sure how long it will be, since ENT isn’t the most vital medical field. But I had stomach flu symptoms last night and called in this morning, and now I’ve been asked to stay home tomorrow too, just in case, though I’ve been fine all day. So that’s two days off work that are fine if I continue having work, but it’s gonna suck if we get shut down and I have a few weeks without income.
We have an extended illness bank, which is paid hours that only ever get used for things like maternity leave and recovery from major surgery. I have like 160 hours saved, so I really hope they let us use those hours if we do shut down; it would be an illness-related shutdown, and most of us have never touched the EIB and never will.
My dad said if we do stop work, I should consider driving down to the cities and quarantining with the rest of my family instead of staying up here alone. But I have too many pets that would be too hard to transport, and really can’t be alone for more than a couple days. I’d be the only person I know quarantining alone; all my relatives and coworkers have somebody, at least.
Staying home tomorrow was not part of my plan, and I’m starting to get properly stressed out. My last paycheck before all this coronavirus stuff started was tiny; all the doctors were on spring break so we were over staffed, and most of us agreed to take a few unpaid days off, assuming we’d make up the time in the next couple paychecks like usual. I’m not going to make it up, especially with the two days out sick this week. We have to have 3 consecutive days off before we can start using the EIB hours.
On a sort of related note, there’s a good chance there won’t be a new chapter of Crooked Arrows on Tuesday. Our new system at work for the coronavirus means I don’t have time to work on it between patients like usual, and I’m just not in the right mindset to write something that’s fairly chill right now; stressed Io means darker, more intense stories. I do have a couple things finished that I might post on AO3 in the meantime if I can’t get back to Crooked Arrows for a few weeks. We’ll see.
And I have tonight and tomorrow to do whatever I want now. I’ve got a doll I’ve just finished rerooting and want to repaint, and after that I’ll probably write, though, again, probably not Crooked Arrows. I have a novel that needs revising and an novella that needs a complete overhaul, plus the Oz Project has been moving in some interesting new directions lately. And I need to design some book covers.
Young Brandon Routh 🙂
