@Regrann from @cop_block_us - Officer Stephen Mader was fired by Weirton Police Department after he refused to shoot a suicidal man. The officer responded to a distress call on May 6, 2016. When he came to the scene he saw an armed Ronald D. Williams Jr. who at that time was acting suicidal. “I told him, ‘Put down the gun,’ and he’s like, ‘Just shoot me.’ And I told him, ‘I’m not going to shoot you brother.’” Officer Stephen Mader knew that this call was a suicide-by-cop so he tried to deescalate the situation. “I thought I was going to be able to talk to him and de-escalate it. I knew it was a suicide-by-cop,” Officer Stephen Mader says. Lately, it becomes clear that Ronald D. Williams Jr. was suffering from a mental disorder. Officer Stephen Mader lost his job but he saved the life of the innocent man. I think he deserves our respect!
