who wants some xenoblade cross christmas angst yeah thats what i thought
Christmas was great for Jay back in the day, back on Earth. Back home when the 4 siblings would spend the month scurrying around, trying to buy for one another, how Jay would know what everyone was getting because if they weren’t helping the twins they were stuck holding things for their big sister. Add on what they’d been getting the rest of them and Christmas was less about the surprise and more about the happy looks on everyone’s faces, enjoying the day and sticking together as a family of 4 siblings. Never did get anything from the missing father, or the mother who abandoned them. But then, they stopped caring years ago. Jay was usually in charge of food on the day, not one to cook a boring traditional big meal, Jay left out snacks and stuff instead, so they could grab some refills for their bellies then go back to having fun. Everything was great around Christmas, just a good, all round fun day to be had with the family.
Of course, everything changed those fateful years ago. Family’s dead now, Earth’s dead now. Christmas isn’t the same anymore to Jay.
The BLADE wandered the streets that day, it was quiet, everywhere closed for the fateful occasion of Christmas. From within the buildings, cheer, laughter, expressions of surprise, thank-you’s and other sounds generally heard on this day. There were many parties going on throughout the city, at HQ, the barracks, etc. Having talked to few people and having not been around much, Jay never got any invitations to any. Did it bother them? Probably.
The streets of NLA were lonely, and thoughts of what was plagued their mind, had they any tears left to cry over the memory they would’ve she at least one, but their eyes were dried up now. Loss is something we all move on from, eventually. One thing caught Jay’s eye though; a discarded box of decorations, old lights-the kind that had solar batteries instead of being plugged in, tinsel and baubles. The classics really. The BLADE walked over to the discarded ornaments in the ragged cardboard box, and idea coming to their mind, like a warm fire had been lit in their head.
Noctilum was hardly a place where one would expect to spend Christmas, but then again, Jay was an unorthodox person. As a friend to indigens after all, they knew who to seek out on this day to lighten the mood. A large, proud Aprica tyrant who stood at the Old Dragontail Tree, Oskar, the Summer Squall. Placing the discarded box of decorations down on the forest floor, Jay took them out one by one and initiated their plan.
“Today, my friend, you shall be Oskar, the Winter Squall! A Miran Christmas icon!” Jay declared proudly, decorating the Aprica like a Christmas Tree, the tyrant not having any objections nor a care in the world. Jay grinned at their creation once it was finished. It seemed a silly thing, but then Jay was hardly that serious a person to many, so perhaps indulging in this was nothing unusual. Jay chuckled to themselves and sat down on the Noctilum floor, once again embracing the calm hum of nature.
Christmas was not how it used to be, the joy found back on earth could never be replicated, and perhaps it was not meant for Jay, really. It was meant for connected people, people with room in their hearts for one another. No place for a wandering, dysfunctional hermit of sorts. As day drew to close and the evening drew in, Oskar would no longer be around. A shame, that. With nothing left for them here, Jay simply trudged back to the city...
