The Phantom of the Opera - Pan Flute (Waltz)
It's not every day you run into a pan flute version of Phantom. But when you do... make a waltz? I haven't been posting many hacks because I don't have a way to test them over the summer, but this one seems pretty reasonable.
Tempo: 118 bpm
Date of original hack: August 3, 2012
Edit: Pattern 12[34], Overlap 100 Percent
Field-tested: Not Yet
# Drive By (Instrumental Waltz) Songs mean so many things. In this case, I don't know what [Drive By](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxqnFJ3lp5k) means to Nick, but it seems to be one of his favorites to DJ and [dance to](https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pvfYbVM7swA#t=27). I showed up at his dance yesterday and interjected with this. It went over as "interesting, but alright." - Tempo: 122 bpm - Date of original hack: June 9, 2012 - Edit: Pattern 1[23]4 - Overlap 100 Percent - Field-tested: June 9, 2012 (The Last Waltz)
# Galactic Spiral Arms (Waltz) Something greatly amuses me about a song title of "Galactic Spiral Arms" by an artist called "[We Plants Are Happy Plants](http://www.wpahp.com/)". It's *very* even in texture, which is not necessarily great for DJing, but good for, say, [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huT5gFiy7p8](developing waltz variations). - Tempo: 110 bpm - Date of original hack: May 15, 2012 - Edit: Lost, probably Pattern 12[34] - Overlap 100 percent - Field-tested: June 4, 2012 (Waltz Lab)
# Human (Waltz) For something new: I converted the instrumental version of this song to 3/4, then overlaid the original vocals, *which are still in 4/4*.Tthus, we've got something of a funny hemiola-effect, but the mind is pretty good at letting the timing "slip" enough. It sounds different, but not intrinsically "wrong" like cutting/speeding up syllables does sometimes. I've tried this for a handful of songs, but [Human](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIZdjT1472Y), by *The Killers*, worked out the best so far. I first heard the original on a late night show in 2008, and I like it quite a bit. It's also thematically appropriate for dance music. :-) - Tempo: 114 bpm - Date of original hack: May 05, 2012 - Edit: Pattern 1[23]4, overlap 100%, Instrumental slowed down to 82.5% and vocals sped up 10% and matched up. - Field-tested: May 07, 2012 (during Dancebreak)
# Just The Way You Are (Instrumental, Cross-Step Waltz) In the category of "cheesy pop songs you've probably heard" we have [Just The Way You Are](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjhCEhWiKXk) by Bruno Mars. It's still sweet as an instrumental converted to 3/4, and appropriately gentle to dance to. Also, I'm going to start noting whether/when these hacks have been field-tested. Most of them have, but it might be good to have the records. - Tempo: 108 bpm - Date of original hack: May 04, 2012 - Edit: Pattern 12[34] - Overlap 100 Percent - Field-tested: May 07, 2012 (post-Dancebreak)
So stylish, check out their cross-steps on those skinny boards!

What is Love? (Cross-Step Waltz)
The lyrics seem to work out very well for most of this.
Tempo: 116bpm
Date of original hack: February 4, 2012
Hack: 12[34], 100%, slowed down to 93.77%
