Okay, so while I’ve been writing this fic based on @theslowesthnery ‘s wonderful undertale!Mob Au scenarios (Namely the ones going on between Sans & some REALLY CROOKED COPS), I saw a pic of theirs with Sans bleeding blue because of his magic color instead of red and it got me thinking on a load of world building questions.
Monsters & humans have very different biology right? Their souls are opposite Human souls in canon (monster souls being white upside-down hearts while humans have colored right-side-up hearts).
Monsters bodies are more closely connected to their souls which is why they can use magic more freely and why each monster has magic color coded to their soul. The reason their soul is white is because the color of their soul (personality, essence, building blocks of their character) shows via their magic.
Humans on the other hand, cannot use magic on their own. Thus the color of their soul is not shown outwardly but inwardly, which is why human souls have color when it is exposed by other forms of Magic.
Monsters have different colored blood due to the connection between their bodies and their souls resulting in their blood regulating their magic like oxygen and changing to the magic’s color because of it. (IE, Alphys probs has dark yellow blood, Undyne has dark green and Sans & Papyrus have dark blue [Dark bc blood can be pretty dark in color, and blue for both of them since I’ve only ever seen them use Blue Magic despite Papyrus being commonly associated with Orange magic. This is up for debate though since I both like the idea of Paps having dark orange blood, and sticking close to canon. d: ])
Humans bleed red regardless of their soul color because their bodies and souls are not as tightly linked as Monsters’ souls and bodies.
Next comes a more tricky world building question. If Monsters can use magic (cooking, healing, manifesting body parts like hands, dongs, tongues, + bone/spear/fire/etc. attacks), why don’t they use magic against the cops, civilians, and troublesome non-gang affiliated monsters?
My answer: The Barrier - except in this au, isn’t a barrier - it’s a Temper Ring.
All towns & cities built by humans have Temper Ring. A Temper Ring is a ring or rectangle put in place along the city boundaries. It saps and suppresses Monster Magic, thus effectively disarming all monsters within its boundaries of all magical arms/combat abilities in order to presumably make the city a safer place.
Because attack magic is stifled, Monsters must resort to using Human technologies (Such as guns + other human weapons) in order to defend themselves/operate in the Mob.
Temper Rings and other forms of monster oppression & segregation are said to be factors in the Dreemur crime family’s rise to power within various Monster communities, especially ones within the inner cities.
There are 3 levels of magic, each one using a different level of energy density.
Level 1 magic: healing magic - The loosest/least dense form of magic, used to treat wounds, encourage healing
Level 2 magic: Minor Conjuration - mildly dense magic used manifest minor physical additions/augmentations (Gaster’s hands, skeleflesh, etc.) or create small healing items such as Monster Food/Drinks.
Level 3 magic: incredibly dense magic strong enough to form an attack and do actual damage. (Blue Magic, Green Magic, Orange Magic; Basically any magic that can inflict damage or some other major change within or upon a body (be it human or monster)
Once magic reaches a Lv 3 particle density, it’s immediately absorbed and used as a power source by the Temper Rings, resulting in no harm done by the offending/attacking Monster and said Monster becoming too exhausted to combat law enforcement.
Level 3 magic can forcibly manifest a human soul that is within the attacking monster’s range, thus making the human soul vulnerable to magical attacks - ergo why Lv 3 magic is banned and the city Temper Rings were enacted.
Basically, Monsters are in their equivalent of a “gun-free-zone” except their gun was their magic, and now they need actual guns to take the place of said magic.
So yeah, this is what I’ve been thinking on all day, as well as the idea of how DT would affect a human soul should it be put into a concentrated form and then injected into them.
I imagine Gaster would have quite a bit of fun with that experiment!
