Crosswords EP (2015) - Panda Bear

Panda Bear is one of members of the that hipster indie group Animal Collective and weirdly enough I have never listened to them.

I don't have anything meaningful to say about this Extended Play. The work falls somewhere between ambient and a shoegaze album. Its nice but it doesn't really stick with me

so i always growing up here that classic opening bars of 'so i always growing up here that classic opening bars of 'It's Tricky' and thinking wow what a unique and novel flow for this song I imagine that there other songs sound different in some way.

Suffice to say that I was not expecting to listen to their debut album be entirely of the call-and-response that typified there work.

I would love to understand their impact and how much it affected contemporary audiences but I will say that with my tin ears I didn't get much out of it.

I was listening to newest sad indie pop girlies The Last Dinner Party and I swore that one of there singles contained the lines 'Whats the Story? (Morning Glory)'

according to Genus Lyrics the line is in fact, 'Pray for me on your knees' regardless,

WTS(MG) is the second studio album by Oasis.

And its rather nice. I'm sure your've heard Oasis its a very 90s rock band with that kind of grudgy flowing? compressed? sound. Its much more my speed. I had a nice time.

Panda Bear – Lisbon Zoo (Crosswords Bonus Track)

The physical version of Panda Bear’s Crosswords EP is out tomorrow, and as one of the most elaborate album eras of the past few years reaches its thrilling conclusion, you know he couldn’t resist putting out one more bonus. If you ordered the 12” record, you’ll be getting “Lisbon Zoo” via your digital download code, which you may remember was attached to Crosswords cut “Jabberwocky” at the original ATP show. The raw energy of those combined tracks is greater than anything else from PBVSGR, and hearing Panda Bear lay the bass on thick for a studio version of "Lisbon Zoo" is the best finale I could've hoped for.

If I did the math right, this puts us right around 24 original or updated tracks, five remixes, four releases, four videos, three mixes, a Boiler Room set, a beautiful website, a documentary, and about a million tour dates. I’m sure you’ll agree that watching all of that unfold has been absolutely wild, and it’s easily made for one of my favorite music experiences ever.

Despite releasing one of the year’s best album’s thus far with Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper, Panda Bear has released more music in the form of the Crosswords EP.  The new EP features a reworked version of the song “Crosswords” off of PBMTGR as well as “The Preakness” which is an old Tomboy outtake and three brand new songs.  The song “Jabberwocky” in particular is a gorgeous psych pop ballad containing one of the finest melodies of his career, of which there are many.  The synth lines soar with with angelic tension while the drums beats steadily march forward serving as a landing pad for Panda Bear’s glorious falsetto.  “Shoot for falling stars, then you’ll only end up lost in space” he croons confidently as the synths begin to sputter vigorously as if on route to abruptly crash in to the earth’s atmosphere before the arrangement circles back to the original progression.  This EP likely marks the end of “Grim Reaper” era Panda Bear and along with last year’s Mr Noah EP, serves as a strong companion piece to PBMTGR and should tide over the Animal Collective obsessives until we wait for their upcoming album to be released.
