Each year, GISH participants work to Change A Life by making a profound difference in the lives of people and communities facing extraordinary hardship. Since 2011, Gishers have helped a wounded US veteran rebuild his life, provided life-saving resources for Syrian refugees, given hundreds of at-risk ...
If you can, my GISH team is looking for donations for Random Acts to help get rid of unexploded bombs in Laos!
Giving?
What is a gift?
During my first ‘co-creative exchanges’ lecture we investigated innovations in giving and through this explored the concept of giving and gifts. So I thought about what a ‘gift’ really is?
A gift, according to google, is ‘a thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present.’ We often think about gifts as; objects, as presents, as things we have bought and are to give others at special occasions (Christmas!!) however we look past the more subtle suggestions of a gift. Like, the gift of time and the gift of knowledge- personally, I think we see these gifts as something else? maybe not willingly given or not given for free?
The gift of time for instance, lets take the example of volunteering... I believe you would find that most volunteers give up their time to this cause to receive something back and i’m not saying I am any different- when I first attempted to get a job and was being refuse do to lack of work experience my first thought was ‘oh I’ll volunteer at a charity shop’. And I would do this to gain experience, to get a job, to benefit me. Not to benefit the charity- although this would happen as an effect of me working there and of course make me feel good but undoubtedly not my initial intention.
However, maybe this is just me? Maybe it’s because I’m young and selfish as I see a lot of the older generation volunteering in Charity shops. I wonder why they do it? Is it because they want to help? Or are they giving their time to pass the time?

One of my closest friends and cosplay partners lost his mother yesterday in a very sudden and tragic fight with cancer. He and his family are scrambling to raise money to pay the immediate funeral home and hospitals bills. Please if you can, donate and signal boost. I will be forever greatful. Thank you
