when they find them and why do they follow them to touch the card
are the cards telling them to pick it up and touch it???
The cards are vessels of power from the old crowned of creation placed by Candle. It’s heavily implied she’s the harbinger of Destiny. The cards almost precisely match the glass windows in the old Crowned’s capital temple mentioned in the introduction of Null!Lightbulb. See it as writing there. And into the fabric of reality.
The cards following the characters is actually Candle’s doing. Her third eye is what allows her to pave destiny. She knows what’s going to happen and can influence things accordingly.
“How can free will exist with Candle around…?”
Candle doesn’t influence much unless ordered to. She makes sure the timelines don’t overlap, closely working with the Crowned of Time. One keeps the stability of time, and the other organizes it. Despite that Candle is more of a holy figure that can push a timeline in the right direction. She can’t puppeteer people, but she can guess based on the probability and patterns of future outcomes she can see, and move things around to make people choose or accidentally go down a desired path. Generally this is reserved for threats or things that would otherwise destroy everything if left untouched.
That’s how she knew OJ was going to fall when he was running from the card. She could guess based on the timelines she could sift through with her third eye, and guessed accordingly.
