THINGS  HAD  BEEN  DIFFICULT  LATELY ,   to  say  the  least.       the  house  had  been  tense,      &   despite  everyone’s  efforts  to  hide  that  from  alex  it  had  become  pretty  obvious.       a  family  walking  on  eggshells,    no  one  wanting  to  say  anything  that  could  make  things  worse  for  him.       but  by  trying  so  hard  to  avoid  making  things  worse  they’d  all  managed  to  do  exactly  that.       they’d  been  warned  that  outbursts  would  happen,    that  emotions  wouldn’t  be  entirely  in  check    &   that  he’d  likely  be  irritable  -  especially  around  discussion  of  his  recovery.       he’d  made  progress,    peter  couldn’t  deny  that  much,  but  it  would  always  feel  like  more  could  be  done.       more  effort  to  help,    more  effort  to  make  things  normal  again.       peter  knows  deep  down  that  things  would  never  be  the  way  they  were,      but  he  wants  nothing  more  than  to  see  alex  happy  again.       truly  happy,      &   not  just  the  brief  happiness  that  he’d  put  on  to  stop  people  from  worrying.        ❛     i  know.    ❜        spoken  with  a  gentle  smile,    one  arm  wrapping  around  him  to  pull  him  into  a  side  hug.       even  if  his  outbursts  were  to  be  expected,    they  still  hit  hard.       alex  upset  always  hit  hard,    but  alex  yelling  at  peter  was  always  worse,    peter  always  sure  that  whatever  he  was  yelling  had  to  be  true.        ❛     it’s  not  like  you  were  totally  wrong,    though.       i  wasn’t  here,       BUT  I  AM  NOW.       i’m  sticking  around  for  a  while    &   i’m  gonna  act,    you  know,    like  an  actual  fuckin’  brother.    ❜
