Saw someone on the Twitch chat say something like “why does it feel like The Mighty Nein’s story is so much slower that Vox Machina’s? at this point VM’s story was already chock full of plot, while TM9′s is just full of useless combat. it feels like TM9 weren’t able to develop their characters”.

The answer is simple: We started watching Vox Machina’s story when they were at level 8-9. We started watching The Mighty Nein’s when they were level 2.

A lot of Vox Machina’s character-driven stories were told off-screen during their home games. We missed Grog’s whole story-driven arc with his father and the fiasco with the lych’s phylactery. There were bits and pieces of Vex & Vax’s story also missed out on, plus a huge chunk of Pike’s too. That’s, like, almost half of their party.

In contrast, we’re able to be a part of TM9′s story and development from the very beginning. We see Beauregard’s growth from a troublemaker monk to an esteemed expositor. Fjord starts out hiding who he is and holding on to a power he doesn’t understand, eventually turning away from this power and embracing himself. Heck, we saw Nott become Veth again.

(Also, we saw the death of a member of TM9. Long may he reign.)

To compare how the VM Stream started to how TM9 Stream started, it would be like if we just started watching TM9′s story at around their trip to Xhorhas. Think about all the things we would’ve missed then.
