What’s your biggest pet peeve when it comes to RPing?
I guess it'd probably be people who take fictional things too seriously. Like obviously we're all attached to our muses but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking like 'do not even look at me if you ship xyz pairing or write xyz character or topic.' Like...it's fiction. Chill. :P
I think some people in the RPC need to remember that writing a topic does NOT always mean approving of it. If it did, GRRM and every mystery writer would be a murderer. And...they're not. So writing a topic does NOT equal glorifying, romanticizing, etc it. That doesn't mean people have to write things they're uncomfortable with. 100% no. I do believe any hardcore triggering topics should always be tagged so people can avoid them. But that does not mean that people who DO want to write those topics, can't. Personally, I'm not the hugest fan, and prefer to focus on other things in my writing. But I just don't believe in the whole telling other people what to write and what not to write, you know? :)
As far as pairings and characters go, there are exceptions to this rule for me at least. Like there are some pairings I dislike and won't RP, and some characters I won't RP with. That's all fine. But I don't necessarily think, even with that that I have a right to tell other people what pairings and characters to RP (with). If someone is RPing a character I don't want to interact with on a multi, for example, I will blacklist their tags etc etc. But I won't act like the mun has personally attacked me for playing a character I'm uncomfortable with. Because I don't believe they have. And as far as pairings go, chemistry is a very subjective thing. People are going to see it different places and that's okay with me. <3 Even if I hate a ship, even if I think it's toxic/unhealthy I just don't believe in telling people what to do.
We're all just nerds playing with our blorbos so let's just have fun with it. <3
Possibly unpopular opinion, IDK. And again, want to emphasize that no one has to interact with anyone they don't want to. Curate your space, it's all good. But I do think sometimes people in the RPC go too far with disliking or feeling uncomfortable about something. If we can't explore darkness through fiction, where and how can we explore it? You know? And if you don't want to interact with a muse/pairing/topic that's all good. If someone refuses to tag it or take steps to make you comfortable? Block them! But I just personally don't think we all have to stick to fluff 100% of the time either. It's a delicate balance and I do believe darker topics should be handled with care etc. But that doesn't mean that people get to tell others what (not) to write. You know?
IDK if I made any sense, so sorry if I rambled. But yeah hopefully I made some sense lol.
