Traditional Scottish Shortbread is a buttery and crumbly biscuit-like treat that has been loved for generations. Its simple yet delightful taste makes it a classic favorite for teatime or any occasion.
Ingredients: 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened. 1/2 cup granulated sugar. 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Instructions: Warm your oven up to 325F 160C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Put the softened butter and sugar in a large bowl and mix them together until they are light and fluffy. Slowly add the flour and salt to the butter mixture and mix it all together. Place the dough on a floured surface and roll it out into a round disc that is about 1/2 inch 1.3 cm thick. Score the disc into equal wedges with a sharp knife, or use cookie cutters to make any shape you want. Put the shortbread pieces on the baking sheet that has been prepared. Prick the tops with a fork to make little holes in them. Put it in an oven that is already hot and bake it for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown. Take the shortbread out of the oven and leave it on the baking sheet for a few minutes to cool down. Move the shortbread carefully to a wire rack to cool all the way down. After the shortbread has cooled, put it in a container that won't let air in. This will keep it crisp.
