Every year around this time I remember going from doing a project for fun to getting the attention of @liljon after it was done. So back on August 3, 2010, Lil Jon released the Acapella versions to all the songs on his album “Crunk Rock”. I remember seeing the post about it, a few hours before my birthday on the 4th. I didn’t have plans for anything so once I got the Acapellas I decided I wasn’t going to leave the studio until I finished mashing up the whole album. As I was making each Mash, the standout track for me was the Journey sample I used on the “What A Night” mix. That one just felt special. Fast forward one week later and I had the project finished. I hired an email blast service to help me get some more ears on the project. Normally I would just post things to my blog and let the DJs find it but I wanted Lil Jon to hear this so I spent the $150 for the service. At the time I probably had less than $500 in the bank but I’m definitely glad I did this. As you can see in the picture above, on August 14th, 10 days after I started the project I got that notification on my phone that Lil Jon was following me on Twitter! When it happened, I was DJing at @buckheadsaloon back when they first opened and I just remember being happy as shit the rest of the night because I knew that Lil Jon must have heard the mixtape. After the weekend, he sent me a DM saying that he had ideas and wanted to work on some things. Since then we’ve collaborated on several originals and hundreds of Mashups that DJs still love to this day. I know I’ve told pieces of this story before but seeing this email from Twitter put it all in perspective again for me. Thank you Jon for believing in me and opening so many doors in these last 9 years 🙏🏻 #djkontrol #liljon #crunkrock #mashup #remixjunkie (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1MTWtjnBzH/?igshid=1j0s97g83x22d
