omg congrats on 200!! could i have a scenario for ushijima and peaches pls? love u muah muah
thank you for sending this in!! love u too muah muah a/n: since i have a separate ushijima x reader request (that also happens to have something to do with food), this one’s a solo ushijima scenario! enjoy :)
ushijima wakatoshi, despite not quite looking the part, can be an absolute sweet tooth at times.
but, like the responsible athlete he is, baked sweets and oversaturated sugary products stay low in frequency on his diet. when his body is practically almost his entire job, cravings take a far backseat. cakes are a once in six weeks phenomenon.
but some things are both sweet and beneficial to his health - this is where ushijima truly finds an appreciation for fresh, ripe fruit - such as peaches.
he makes his appreciation clear when he goes peach picking with his aunt, whom he isn’t very close to, but is thankful for introducing this lovely activity to him. he’s also thankful that he can get away from the city during these times, as he finds that he misses the countryside quite a bit from time to time.
now, ushijima walks with small steps through the peach orchard, head just touching the middle branches of the trees. he bumps into one fruit, facing it eye-to-eye, examining it to see if it is worth the pick.
see, over the years, he’s grown to be able to identify the signs of a peach optimal for picking. the most obvious sign, he thinks, is the colour - is there any green left on the skin of the fruit? is it fully pink or reddish-orange? ushijima finds that there are none.
next, he inspects the shape of the peach. the rounder it is, the more ripe it likely is as well. this one is well and round, so he’s really considering it. then, with gloved hands, ushijima gently touches the fruit, using the lightest pressure to gently feel the firmness of the peach. to his dismay, as he pushes into the fruit slightly, careful not to bruise, it doesn’t have him the kind of “give” that his favourite peaches have.
now he’s skeptical. he pulls the fruit gently from the branch, with no intent of actually picking it, predicting that it wouldn’t come off so easily off the branch anyways - and he was right. the peach needed more time to ripen.
despite the slight disappointment, he looks to another peach on the same tree, seeing as even the lower peaches were quite close to optimal picking conditions.
so he reaches up - this is where he thinks his height has another advantage in life, aside from volleyball - and examines a fruit from the top of the tree, a little bigger than the rest. he’s found that larger peaches at the top tend to be better overall.
he goes through his entire criteria again: colour, shape, firmness, even smell. the peach passes all said criteria, and now ushijima shakes the limb from which the peach is hanging in case of any bugs, and then pulls it with full intent to pick and buy.
thankfully, this one comes off smoothly. ushijima smiles to himself.
the peach is placed in a rectangular container, becoming one of many beautiful peaches he’s picked today. as he walks away from one tree to another, he looks at the large collection of peaches he has accumulated. he thinks of asking for a bulk rate since he’s picking so much.
just then, a child bumps into his leg, mumbling a “sorry, mister,” before picking up a peach from the ground. ushijima’s attention is diverted to this child for a second, wondering if he should tell the child that it’s not very optimal to pick a peach from the ground - it may be bruised and overripe.
“woah, mister, your peaches are so pretty! where did you find them?”
ushijima squats down, placing his container of peaches on the ground. he lets the child observe them, before he starts to explain his criteria to the child.
“can i have some of yours? i’m not tall enough to reach for the high ones...”
ushijima considers it for a moment, but eventually says, “c’mere. i can help you pick out the best ones.”
send me your favourite haikyuu boy and a random keyword and i’ll write you a scenario about them! it can either be x reader or solo :)
i feel sick to my throat
