"Just Desserts" won by just a few votes! How will it fare against the next episode, 3x08 "Cry Uncle"?
The episode picks up right where the last one left off as the Walker family finds Abby collapsed outside. Everyone rushes to the hospital and we're all relieved to find that she will be okay. But August is definitely in hot water with his family, even after she makes her recovery.
Her health scare has Abby thinking about the future. She wants to update her will and try to reconnect with her estranged brother. While Bonham pushes back against any will talk, Cordell is happy to drive out to Dallas with the kids to speak with Uncle Willie and hopefully sort out the issues between Stella and August. Things start off pretty horribly as Stella and August argue in the backseat until Cordell kicks them out and makes them walk the rest of the way to their destination. Their first interaction with William also goes terribly until Cordell arrives to try and smooth things over. It's not until breakfast the next morning that things start to come together after Cordell leaves them alone at the table and forces them to address the issues between them. While there's not much apologizing, Stella does start to recognize that part of August's acting out is that he feels neglected by the family, whether there's favoritism or not. William also turns around by the end of their trip and admits he does want to reconnect with Abby but it won't be easy. This leads to him calling her for the first time in 20 years at the end of the episode.
Meanwhile, back in Austin, Cassie and Trey are assigned to work a case regarding a missing mogul and James has very special instructions for Trey- to report everything back to him and not make any moves without direct approval. Trey does his best to follow those rules but finds it hard to fight back against Cassie when she pulls rank and follows her instincts. While the case does get solved, Trey gets reprimanded by James for not following the rules.
