just like he never expected himself to accept this woman’s daughters caring nature into his closed off world, billy doesn’t expect to melt into the mothering janet gives him either. yet, every single time he does. the holloway girls have something special in common, he just can’t be mean to them. and really, he secretly loves her motherly nature towards him. in the beginning, he was indifferent about someone being this way to him. he’s always hated his mom for leaving him with neil, but he still always had a problem about accepting another woman being nice to him. he always found it unfair it wasn’t his own mom and why he’d usually get offended, and push someone away.
like susan-- his stepmother. he won’t let her mother him as hard as the poor woman tries, but janet is special because he does allow her and even pulls her into a small side hug after she squeezes his muscular arm. he doesn’t really know how to offer a hug, but he’s trying. even so much as finally giving her a real hug, with both arms wrapping around the shorter woman. “yeah, you’re right. i’ll take care of you.” he decided that when he told heather he’d teach her how to drive, long before tom left them both. now he’ll make sure her mom is okay, too. because they’re both apart of something he can relate with-- a family member abandoning their family. and in general he’s crazily protective over max, heather and her mother. “oh, i believe it. heather is definitely the best kid in the world any parent could ask for.” he bets his dad wishes he turned out half as good as heather. and heather is lucky in return to have such a nice mother.
“and...don’t worry about finding someone to mow the lawn.” pulling back, big hand places on her shoulder, “i’ll do it and whatever else for you for cookies. okay?” smirking in an endearing amused little way, snorting about his joke about the cookies. he can be so weirdly lovable when it comes to the right person when he’ll go right back to growling towards anyone else in the world. brows perk, he’s feeling like he’s been caught because he hasn’t been eating too often. a wave of rare embarrassment momentarily washes over expressions, then he just smiles with a nod, “yes, ma’am.” he won’t deny food when it’s coming from her kitchen.

is it a universal experience to know exactly what to do to feel better or like. the image that makes you feel better. but a part of you just chooses to deadass ignore it and now nothing works
i think i should stop expecting people to like me when i cant hold conversations of topics im uncomfortable with
baking but instead of baking i somehow mess up both chocolate cake and instant cheesecake with very clear instructions in the same day and when i finally openly cry about it and openly say i want to be left alone suddenly my whole family has opinions about my baking therapy and think that me crying over failing at a coping mechanism is not that big of a deal.
