For all that she KNEW, everyone had long since gone home. They had driven away with glee, some MORE tipsy than others - thus leaving her with all the CLEAN UP. Typical. The girl didn’t really mind though. It gave her something to do while the QUIET crept back into the house. In all truth, it was the perfect DISTRACTION. With oversized trash bag in hand, the blonde roamed around the house, slowly picking up red solo cups and various pieces of trash until she eventually found herself standing in the middle of the LIVING ROOM. A frown creased over her pink lips and a furrow set itself between her brows. On the SURFACE there was nothing wrong perhaps, but her mind wandered just a tad too far and before she knew it, the girl sank to her knees to just cry. Welp ... there goes the DISTRACTION.

holding the jug of MILK, billy tips it back after emerging out of tina's kitchen, staring at the back of her head in confusion for a good moment-- clueless what to do at the crying. and what for? what did she have to be so sad about. she could throw a party without getting beaten, meant she at least didn't have that to deal with... didn't it? with the gallon of milk emptied out now, he screws the lid back on and tosses the light plastic at her head with a snort, "what's wrong with you?" deep voice questions, alcohol running through his system causing him to stumble on pure air, ring clad hand coming up to catch himself on the wall.

It wasn’t particularly new thing for Gabriella to be underestimated by others. Whether it was a vampire who had mistaken she was a blood bag for her family or a human who thought she was simply passive, it didn't matter - all seemed to have their own assumptions about her. Such comments didn't bother Gabriella so much. In fact it amused her - and Billy's was no exception.

"I assure you I can handle myself perfectly fine." Gabriella pointed out matter of factly, her steps echoing coolly along the pavement as she walked. She spared a look over to Billy, her delicate eyebrows raising slightly with a glint of humor in her soft doe eyes, "I grew up with three older brothers ... and two older sisters. Trust me, they made sure I didn't grow up fragile."

"oh, yeah?" words came out of disbelief, "doesn't seem like it to me." blues looked her over while she walked towards him, if anything she came off as someone who was too nice. then again, he wondered what she was doing hanging out with someone like him. "look like bambi to me." billy snorts, she'd have to show and tell, he'd have to see it to believe it a girl like her wasn't easy to break. it was fun to taunt people just to rouse a reaction. "jeez, why so many siblings? that many brothers and sisters would drive me to my damn grave. one is bad enough."

albeit the ache in waking muscles , there is no hiding the slight jump at the change in her brother's tone. flashes of the billy that was echoed the commanding boom of his voice. what made it frightening though was not the volume , rather the lack thereof. the cool tones filled with ire. too many times max had been on the receiving end of his backlash. too often did she see the shift in his eyes when she crossed the line. there was little care she held for it , he only ever hated her and the idea they were now tied together by the marriage of his father and her mother. but after starcourt things slowly became clearer to her. the anger he was quick to was a cover , a wall much like she erected going into her freshman year to hide behind. his own way to cope with the hell that neil rained down on their household.

𝗦𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗖 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗘.

but looking at him now , voice just as demanding as prior , there is something different. max doesn't push away from his touch , doesn't lessen herself under his eye contact. instead she listens. hears the pain in his voice as he reveals his fear. how he had visited. she craves to turn to lucas for solidification regarding the claim , but how he opens himself up is enough for her to know. he had visited. he waited for her to wake up all this time. her heart lurches in her chest , teetering to drop into her stomach at the image. and if that alone did not attempt to send tears to collect in her eyes , it was his final words.

“yeah, no more running. no more hiding.” hand taking his causing him to fall frozen before he finally takes it in return. relearning how to touch without breaking something. the emotions he found stinging max's eyes is unnerving, he'd seen it before, but this time he wasn't numb to watching her cry like the first time it panged him during the night at starcourt – he'd seen her cry for him, but he couldn't get it. it stirred something inside him now, just as it did then. cracking the glacier over his cement heart into tiny pieces.

hand lifts & calloused thumb brushes under her eye, quick and awkward, like he didn’t mean to touch her at all. again, something grateful hit him square in the chest taking her in alive. “deal, shitbird. of course i freakin' promise, i'm not bullshitting you on this,” hand messes up her hair, “doing you a favor, by the way. you needed a new hairdo. you've been wearin' this one for a hundred years now.” taunting before his own tears clog up his throat and stain his face anymore than what he already has. “and... for just now figuring out we finish it together.”
