I’ve heard some other Lunars say that life as aslave is the worst kind of life to lead. As someone who’s been a fucking serf,I disagree. See, a slave knows he’s a slave. Dynasts are pretty good at beatingany semblance of hope out of slaves but with peasants they fool them. They makeyou think that you can climb out of the mud a little bit; all the moredepressing when you find out you can’t. The best a peasant can hope for savingup enough copper to maybe get a new plow or fix the roof of the hut you and sixothers were living in. At least slaves know that they’re slaves; peasants areslaves and they don’t even know they’re fucked.
