Bruce glanced up at the man. They hadn’t talked much, but he liked Bucky, not just because he seemed like a decent person, but also because he tried to move on. The guy had gone through a lot, and done some rather horrible things, but he still kept going. Bruce admired that. Which was part of the reason he put on a faked smile, trying to act like all was okay.
“Thanks, but you don’t need to.” Which was true, but a part of him didn’t want to be alone, no matter how tired and sore he was. Sometimes, he remembered more of what Hulk did than other times, today had been one of the ones he remembered better. So many killed. Yes, they were not particularly nice people, but still people. Unlike some in the team, there was no glory in battle for Bruce. He was a scientist, not a soldier or warrior. Though, he hadn’t mentioned this, so he wasn’t sure how Bucky could know that he was barely able to keep it together.
Also, if there was someone who could understand what he went through, turning into something else and doing things he otherwise wasn’t exactly fond of, it would be Bucky. Steve partly understood the physical pain, since his serum had physically altered him too (although not in the same way as what happened with Bruce every time Hulk emerged), but the changing of being, of losing control, that was something he thought Cap’s friend understood better.
“You... you should go back to the others,” Bruce added, pulling the blanket closer around his shoulder and lowered his gaze again.
