Hi I've got a question about a potential kekkei genkai I want to give my OC. Not sure if it's already been done in canon or if it even qualifies as a kekkei genkai; The ability to solidify and harden chakra into something like crystals. The wiki hasn't been of much help.

So, your question made me immediately think of Crystal Release.  And while its not exactly the same concept as your KG, I would suggest modifying yours if you don’t want them to be confused with one another.

Even though, in my opinion, yours sounds much cooler than the Crystal Release used in the filler episode.  Maybe you could have it harden into a different substance?

I've been trying to make a Naruto OC - born around the time of Naruto but not as involved until after the fourth war. I want her to be part of a more obscure clan, or maybe have a hidden jutsu, and I'm torn between the Iburi clan and a form of crystal release. I'm tempted to make her Yukimi's daughter but I'm not sure if the timeline fits. Or, if I do crystal release, is an obsidian-crystal variation viable, or cinnabar? I'm quite honestly not sure how viable my choices are.

Since not much is really known about crystal release, I think that there’s a lot of room to work there.  I’m not sure about the crystals being made from actual obsidian since the jutsu just hardens things like air or moisture into crystals (check the wiki for further info). But since everyone has a unique chakra signature, maybe the color the crystals are would be different for everyone. (I always thought it was interesting that Guren’s crystals were the same color as her lipstick)

As for the clan relations, I think you could use your character to flesh those out more if you wanted!

I've been brainstorming about a clan being able to use crystal release, and since it's quite a small clan they own jewelry shops so then customers can buy them, but as an extra detail some of the crystals contain chakra inside, which is able to protect the person who wears it, would that be ok?

Crystal Release works by transforming physical matter into crystalline structures, this does not include chakra as chakra does not have a physical form.  So I don’t know if it would be possible to seal a jutsu inside of a crystal formed in this way.

But also consider sealing a jutsu inside of a naturally formed crystal (i.e. one from the Earth).  I think this might work better for you and we’ve seen Itachi seal jutsu inside of objects before, so I’d say if you go this route, just make sure the clan is well-versed in sealing jutsu.  A downside to this being that the jutsu that is sealed can only be used once.

About Reisa

Reisa was born blind, but "sees" much like Toph Beifong from ATLA, using vibrations; she further enhances her sensing by using chakra.

She has the Crystal Release Kekkei Genkai, and is incredibly skilled when using it. Her most frequent use of her power, however, is usually making jewelry or small trinkets, making her better at fine control and details rather than large flashy attacks.

Generally kind, and not overly ambitious, Reisa is rather sweet spirited. She does have a penchant for harmless pranks, though. She enjoys spending time with others just as much as she can appreciate solitude.
