Only in comic books can you get dramatically corny yet awesome reveals like this! Looks like Eggman’s gonna deal with his own creation next issue.
Funny that they went with “Crystal Sonic“ and not “Crystal Metal Sonic“. Perhaps Sega didn’t want him to seem like the same character, like with characters’ classic and modern selves, despite the change of coat?

Eggman was ready and willing to kill Naugus at point-blank range while he stared him down!
And look, the suit wore off but Metal Sonic is no longer crystal-y! Everything’s back to the status quo.
Right outta the gate, we see the fight the previous issue built towards! Eggman’s got a little trick up his sleeve and that’s in the form of this “Hard-Light Armor“ to combat the Trolls’ crystal magic. I love how it's coloured and its translucent effect on the cover is superb, though kinda sad its reveal gets completely spoiled, especially if one had seen the preview covers before this issue came out.
I’ll get into it now seeing as I’ve already come this far. xD The hologram armour is rather unexpected and doesn’t fit the doctor’s usual style of clunky “Egg-suffix“ mechas, but I guess he did install it at the last minute. As off-putting as it might be, I can appreciate the colour contrast and the power levels heightened after he activates it, even if it can only last for a few minutes.
It easily lets him punt Metal Sonic across the room tho
