Guys, so I’m making statues of the gods I worship and I’m coming up with concepts. One for Hekate and one for Aphrodite! Which of these designs do you like the best?
They’re going on a mini altar with other hand made statues based on real Egyptian statues, so I want them to somewhat fit that theme :3
I love the gods. I’m writing a research paper on Hekate and Nephthys and several times now I’ve seen Vultures (a symbol of Nephthys) and crows (Hekate) side-by-side or touching one another

I decided to share my work from the contest separately, it turned out to be larger than the original because of the composition. It was interesting to take part, to remember what an abundance of layers can be obtained when painting the chiaroscuro of the characters😅 I haven't painted in a realistic style with chiaroscuro for a long time. I thought I'd share the story of the art creation process, maybe it would be interesting to someone. Careful, I'm not good at doing this in short)
I probably should have kept the original composition of the author and just redrawn it in my own style, for example, like my characters from the comic book project Fiasco (more precisely, a partial redesign of the characters of Desperate Heroes, only with more realistic proportions of bodies and faces). I liked the angular style, comfortable), but I thought it would be boring to just redraw.
Therefore, I gradually decided to try to make the author's characters in a more unusual style for myself - to make them as realistic in proportions and color volume as possible, but to leave the eye size larger, which made the skull of the head a little smaller than it should be. Ugh, I broke down on the wings and hair of the characters. I did not detail their chiaroscuro and texture, it would be too tedious😬
I hope, despite the static, I managed to emphasize the character of the characters in one shot and their contrast. I liked the author's idea to highlight the contrast of directly opposite colors in them, and I decided to enhance it by emphasizing the contrast of the characters' characters, their positions, and their position in the frame. Isis is intentionally taller than Nephthys, as a more active, wayward, proud heroine (in fact, that's why she switched their places in the frame with Nephthys) is placed in contrast with the softer, passive, loyal and younger Nephthys, but at the same time both lean equally evenly at hip level, i.e. like sisters, no one is on anyone. Isis does not put the "weight" of her body on Nephthys, Nephthys can afford to "lean" on her with her body.
At the same time, I also wanted to fit into the golden section of the frame, so that the points of interest / gaze of the viewer on the heroines stood at the intersections of the lines and along the diagonal points of view.: from Isis' hand to her eyes, from Isis' eyes to Nephthys' eyes, from her wing to Isis' wing and down Nephthys' thigh to the end of the frame. (It's not for nothing that last summer, during the animation course, I closed my gaps on the topic of composition. It was necessary to apply and refresh the knowledge)
Before drawing the heroines' clothes and emphasizing their character, I watched their model sheets and some of the comics with them. Apparently, since the creation of the reference lists, the design of the heroines has already been slightly rethought. Some details of their clothes have changed or changed their color. For example, the ribbons on the dresses were tied in a different way, and on the head of Nephthys the ribbon was the same color as that of Isis. It was a little easier with Isis, there is more material on her (it seemed to me that she has pride, it's not bad, but I hope I didn't overdo it with her, setting her pose. According to the idea, it should be self-confidence and pride, not pride).
It was more difficult with Nephthys, there were fewer images of her with her lines or other emotions, it was difficult to understand what kind of character this Nephthys had (the characters are from the myth, of course, there are their actions to judge their character, but this is not yet in the comic, I do not know if all the events of the myth are included in this Nephthys) So I took her basic interpretation as a basis, that she is softer, more loyal and passive than Isis, but unlike my personal interpretation (that Nephthys is just scared by Seth with such a difficult character to the point of passive and melancholic), Despite Neftida's gentleness, I tried to draw her as the author, calm and confident. It seems that she is, judging by the art available from her.
