Worldbuilding piece from a couple years ago. I've always loved Akhluts and wanted to make it into a creature species for my headworld.
I made it into a mammal descended from proto-whales that never transitioned into a fully aquatic lifestyle. Instead, they essentially became giant otters, with their forehead nostrils the only remaining hints to their ancient cetacean roots.
That night, Annah decided this was the last time her spouse would raise his hand against her. She knew of Akhlut's reputation as a manhunter, and how she was always looking for new prey

TIL about the akhlut of Inuit folklore. and had a terrible thought
I found out about this creature in the midst of an AtLA rewatch (the original of course) so of course my mind drew comparisons between the hybrid animals of the avatar world and the nightmare fuel that is basically described as a wolf-orca. And I came to the horrifying conclusion that there is a high probability that this hell-beast:
MIGHT ACTUALLY EXIST IN THE SAME WORLD AS THE REVERED TURTLEDUCK????
