... ai Crystales riesce proprio il piccolo e prezioso prodigio di unire l’indolenza assolata che da qui immaginiamo West Coast con l’indolenza dissolta negli echi e nei riverberi dello shoegaze. Hanno scoperto come far combaciare il muro di suono dei My Bloody Valentine con la fragilità dell’indiepop. Sono un quartetto di Highland Park, Los Angeles, stanno per debuttare con un album su Burger Records, ed è proprio un altro nome Burger il primo che mi viene in mente ascoltando queste undici scintillanti tracce: quello dei Tomorrows Tulips. Stessi suoni che sembrano sfaldarsi a ogni nota e che quasi per miracolo riescono a intrecciare una melodia, stesse atmosfere di sogno. Ma mentre la band di Alex Knost Ford Archbold conduce la propria musica, più rock e spoglia, verso una sensualità psichedelica, ai Crystales riesce più naturale maneggiare sentimenti come la malinconia e l’abbandono...
