HAPPY INKTOBER EVERYONE!! This year I'm doing a Chimera series which entails randomly generating two or more animals and rolling dice to pick an attribute from the above list. And other random prompts as I see fit or are inspired to do. It's gonna be a lot of fun and challenging but I'm excited! Feel free to draw along with me and create your own chimeras! Hi again. I was wondering, what program do you use to make your utautale tracks? And any tricks on turning the vocals into instruments to play notes? I recently found the vocal tracks for the UT characters and I'm excited to finally be able to make songs but I have no idea how to use them. 😅 Thank you!

the programs I use to make these things are literally UTAU for the vocal parts and Audacity to put them together with the music or edit it in general. I don’t remember how I set up UTAU itself, but I guarantee you can find a tutorial somewhere for setting it up

as for setting up the voices, that might be something I have to explain since everyone (excluding Gaster and I think Temmie) only has one sound bit. so that’s under this cut because I know it’ll get pretty long

once you download UTAU, there should be a folder in there named “voice”. make a new folder in there, name it after a character and put their sound bit into their folder (make sure it’s a wav file! otherwise, it won’t work in the program).

get into UTAU and switch the voicebank to the character you just put in (Project > Project Property > Voicebank > [switch to character name] > OK).

now that you’ve got the voicebank up, go to Tools > Voicebank Settings. you will see the sound bit that you put in the folder. in the box labeled “Alias”, type in a key on your keyboard that is preferably the most comfortable for you to keep pressing when you’re transcribing a ust (which I’ll get to in a bit). personally, I used the “a” key for them.

to tune the sound bit, press the button that says “Launch Editor”. I’m not entirely sure how to explain this one without a picture, so here’s a screenshot of how I tuned Alphys’ sound bit:

there’s probably a better way to explain this tbh. this portion of UTAU isn’t a strong suit of mine. but basically the blue borders show where the sound bit starts and stops. I don’t remember what the pink, green, and red are, but I’ve been told that they should kinda be placed in that order (ex. the green and red lines shouldn’t be in the pink area).

once you’re done tuning, you’re basically good to go for that voicebank! and for the rest of the characters, it’s just rinse and repeat.

and those usts I mentioned earlier are a little easier for me to explain. “UST” stands for “Utau Sequence Text.” basically, they’re note maps. it shows what notes the character will sing and how it will sound. you can download usts from other people or make them yourself if you want (not that I’m skilled with that). I won’t explain how usts work in detail, but you could probably search it up. I’m sure there’s someone more experienced with UTAU than I am and can explain it better.

so anyways, this is what a ust (in Hiragana) looks like. the ust I’m using is one for Orange.

sometimes, usts will be written in romaji (which is basically just using the Roman alphabet). in order for it to work for utautale, you’ll need to edit the notes to the key you assigned to the sound bit earlier, like this:

and once you’ve transcribed the whole song (including its harmonies or extra parts of the song, if available), you’ll be good to go on vocals!

I think that’s all I can explain right now. sorry this got really long! if there’s anything else you still need to know that I didn’t explain, someone else out there probably has an answer. hope this helps!
