Some of what occurred in the season finale felt odd to me, like, I wanted to WONDER about whether Gregory was going to end up being some type of principal (especially because there were articles that came out when he was interim principle and the problems and intricasies that are mentioned about how it might affect things was so interesting), etc. I wanted to have my own questions about what may fall into place, but now we just know (the foundation of) what will occur next season. And because we know these characters so well, unless there are other major issues that come into play, it felt like everything was set up in a way that doesn't fade off and give us room for our own imagination to flourish.
I personally would've preferred more nuanced shots to explicit mentions of things like marriage (Janine subtly telling her mom that that could be something held in the future being a good example) or even not having the issue of how they were going to deal with the schools being shut down.
Honestly, it's more gradient, so I could see arguments for whether they should've made the uproar of the school more apparent of have it linger in the background in favor of seeing other characters relax and deal with more interpersonal issues and things, but that's up to yall!!!
Overall, I just felt that the issues we'd see next season were introduced quite plainly/ that we were told rather than shown. And I hope that, based off of what we already know to be coming, we explore character dynamics more deeply as a way to examine WHY some characters are even acting the way they're acting, which has sullied not only their characters, but made some relationships fall "flat" or whatever.
Some of the things I DID like about it, however, are the small moments and sideplots steadily introducing a more positive perspective and tone onto the characters: Ava w her man, Janine surprisingly giving "mostly fans" a shot (??! alr then 😭) and Sea Barabara coming out again. I hope we get to see more heartfelt moments like this in season 6, along w going back to the characters roots and exploring them in silly little ways along with heavier ways that both are heavy and FEEL heavy. But irregardless to my own critiques imma stay watching AND supporting Abbott, sooooo 🤷🏾♀️
Ohhhh, let’s get INTO IT. ( This is particularly for my open minded, fanfic reading, Abbott fans lol)
Crystal and Ava’s dynamic is so layered, and I need people to hear me no matter how crazy it may sound LOL!
From the moment Crystal stepped on screen, it was too familiar. The little smirks, the way she just knew how to push Ava’s buttons…like, sis wasn’t just some old sorority sister, that was an old flame.
Don’t get me started on how touchy Crystal is. Like, Ava be swerving everybody 😂 she barely even lets Janine and Jacob breathe in her space), but Crystal? She lets her get close. Too close. Even to the point of hugging her. She doesn’t hug her back but she doesn’t push her away.
It’s like Crystal got some pull over her, and the way Ava’s eyes got all soft for a second? Not in a “I’m in love” way, but in a “I remember” way. Like for a second, the walls drop, and we get a glimpse of the girl she used to be. The one before the ego, before the show she puts on at Abbott. The girl that nobody else at that school has seen that side of her—only Crystal.
That’s why I very VERY lowkey feel like Crystal was part of Ava’s bisexual awakening. Like, I know in my little delusional soul that Crystal was Ava’s first real crush, the one that made her realize she was into women. Maybe in their sorority days, Crystal was the one who cracked open something in Ava, made her feel in a way she wasn’t ready for. Maybe it was love?
I could see something messy going down. I wouldn’t put it past Crystal to have played along with some pledge humiliation, made Ava feel small in front of the other girls, maybe even acted like whatever they had wasn’t real.
And that’s why Ava’s been trying to get the upper hand ever since. Every little jab, every attempt to one-up Crystal—it’s not just for fun. It’s a grudge. A wound that never really healed. It’s not just about competition; it’s about power. Like, Ava refuses to be put in a position where Crystal can hurt her again, so she masks everything with jokes and pettiness.
So yes, Ava has to one-up Crystal. But It’s not just ego. It’s protection. BUT she did let her ego go this latest episode so we shall see how this dynamic goes.
I need a backstory like immediately
BARK BARK BARK AVA/CRYSTAL BARK BARK
-- @the-frankenman-writes
OH HI FRIEND!
I have had this Ava/Crystal thing on my docket since just about a billions years (give or take a couple million). It is in the very early stages aka I am brain dumping a bunch of ideas in there to see what will stick but, the overall main idea is to explore their time in college and how much that relationship has shaped Ava into the person she is now and the way she approaches romantic relationships.
Expect angst, psychosexual mind games, toxic yuri on main, lots and lots of sarcasm, smut (because it's me, so of course), and whatever else I can throw in there to make it a little more fucked up.
Some iteration of this have a Ava/Crystal & Ava/Janine parallel thing going. That would be a deeper dive into the dynamic I introduced in You Learn To Lick It Off Knives. I like the idea of Crystal shaping Ava into who we see her to be (in relationships at the very least) and Ava in turn shaping Janine to be her plaything if you will. Kind of a Dr Frankenstein and his monster and in turn the monster creates the bride type of situation.

new Crystal/Ava fic
I decided to do my part and write a fic because there is so much STUFF between the two of them, there's no way there's not a backstory. Let me know what you guys think!
