I should’ve focused on the way you told me you loved me rather than how many freckles were on your arms. I should’ve focused on the words slipping from your mouth rather than the way you twiddle your thumbs counter clockwise. I’m so sorry that I loved you too much but you fell in love with a writer and I’ll write about you until my fingers bleed and my bones ache to serve as a reminder that i should have tried harder to make you stay. I should’ve focused on the way you left claw marks in my sheets as if leaving me was the hardest thing you’ve come to do. you left an awful taste in my mouth that only strong whiskey can wash away.
