Grew up in a wealthy (though starting to go broke from debt) yet abusive household because she wasn't supposed to be born, and blamed her for ruining their lives for spending their money on her (even though it's her parents spending their money for a lavish lifestyle)

So they forced her to join fashion contests and make her sociable (though during that time she's pretty introverted, all she wants to do is read books)

They attended parties which was filled with rich sociable people that apparently likes gossiping about each other (which is how she learned how to gossip and keep secrets)

They also taught her how to pickpocket while they distracted their victim

When she once snuck out to the library to steal more books (she loves books, but her parents said it's stupid and useless to become wealthy), she got caught

When they were dragging her home she finally stood her ground (she didn't argue with them or anything, she just begged them to understand)

So like the shitty parents they were, her mom slapped her, and her dad beat her (they have the balls to do this in broad daylight)

That's when she met Dina/Gossiper (after Dina escaped from jail with the help of the Cleaners :3)

Dina saw her being abused and made Dina remember her past (Dina was abused by her aunt)

Despite being how she is (Dina is, to put it simply, cold and indifferent due to an illness), Dina saw herself in Katya, so she stepped in and threatened to call the police (the irony)

Her parents just left Katya there with Dina because they didn't want her anymore because she's not compliant and naive anymore

So Dina adopted Katya (though at first Vlad didn't really want to after what happened with Carmen, but now they're a family :3)
