Combat

HA! Do you remember nothing of HONOR? Of GLORY on the battlefield? You, who would parlay with the humans? You who allowed warlocks to practice their dark magic right beneath our feet... You are WEAK.

Turns:

Agility+Any miscellaneous Initiative modifiers=Initiative.

If two people have the same Initiative modifier, whoever has the higher Agility value goes first. If their Agility scores are identical, then both will roll a d20 to determine turn order with the higher roll going first.

In some circumstances, the GM may grant bonuses or impose penalties on Initiative (such as having the first person to notice the enemies receive a +5 bonus).

Actions:

In a given combat turn, you may make a Standard Action and a Movement Action. Generally speaking, anything that requires a roll will count as either of these actions. A Standard Action is a typical action you may make in combat -- attacking, casting a spell, and so on. Movement Action is simply moving within your character's "speed" (which is how many feet your character can move in a given turn). If you so choose, you may make two Movement Actions instead of a Standard Action and a Movement Action. However, you may not make two Standard Actions in place of a Standard Action and a Movement Action unless you are using a specific ability that allows for it.

In some situations, you may only be allowed to make one action. Choose wisely!

Free Actions, such as just talking or taking a quick look around, are unlimited, but the GM may impose limitations depending on the situation to how many free actions you may take or to what degree your Free Actions count for the sake of realism (e.g. Delivering a lengthy speech would not count as a Free Action in most cases).

Skill Checks

How to perform a skill check or a stat check in Chrono Stars.

d20s are used for all skill checks in Chrono Stars, and the difficulty of the action you're performing determines what you need to roll in order to succeed. For example, something of average difficulty might require a roll of 10 or more to succeed. However, if you are particularly skilled at what you're attempting, you may get to roll more than one d20 to see if you succeed or not.

Your skill's entire value (ranks+any other miscellaneous modifiers) determines how many times you can roll a d20 to see if you succeed at the skill check. The stat attached to the skill (e.g. Strength for Jump, Swim, and Climb) determines the maximum amount of times you may roll.

For example, a character with a 5 in Stealth but a 3 in Agility could roll a Stealth check a maximum of 3 times even though they have a 5 in Stealth.

Sometimes you may end up in a situation where you need to roll to see if you succeed at something, but what you're trying to do isn't covered by a particular skill. In this case, the gamemaster will tell you to make a stat check, such as a Strength check for trying to break down a door. In this case, your stat score is how many times you can roll a d20 to see if you succeed.

Sometimes in a skill check or a stat check, the gamemaster will impose a penalty or a bonus depending on the situation (such as a penalty for trying to do something in a rush or a bonus for a Knowledge check on something your character has studied for all their life). Such penalties/bonuses will be, for example, +2 or -2 to the end result of all of your rolls.
