We here at a Just in Time Production have had the pleasure of working on a few projects of theirs and really like the projects we have created together and hope you do too.
On this project Andrew Lucero was responsible for the layout development. Taking cues from the two producers he was able to come up with a modern layout with the nostalgic feeling of the era for which the movie depicted. However, it never starts off that easy.
Above is a layout without the background. Many projects start like this to keep the main focus on the information (AKA the content).
Take these two slides for example. The one above and the one underneath. Both were based on the style guide yet they didn’t quite fit the feeling of the movie that the producers were after.
Yes the layout was strong, but there is a need to balance layout with the graphics. This is where I get to step in.

Above is the first aged photo background I designed. The idea is that your looking through an old photo album. Next was to have Andrew match the color to the background. Pulling colors from the background keeps everything cohesive.
Above was the first color match which lead to more exploration.
After completing three sample layouts we were able to determine the project was losing its sense of adventure and looked a bit too mellow. The movie is a drama, yet it is meant to have a sense of fun about it. To fix this I created unique color themes for each spread.
Next Andrew would incorporate the background colors to the spreads and adjust the content to reflect the color themes.
